Three Ways to Lower Your Stress – Even if You Can’t Change Your Life

It’s a good thing I have these three simple steps to help you lower your stress without having to change your life.People everywhere often misconceive the idea that you need to undergo a life-changing process to get rid of all the stress in their lives. Avoiding stress is never the answer. You can run away from doing household chores by paying for someone to do it for you, but you can’t run away from your job, raising kids, or paying the bills.

Step 1: You should really stop multi-tasking.

Most of us often think that the more things we do at the same time, the faster we can get done. However, if you keep doing this, your body builds up stress which eventually brings you down to rock bottom. Isolate your activities by setting plans and goals. You can do this best buy making a To Do List. At the start of the day, write down the things you want to do in order. Set a personal rule of not jumping ahead to the next task when you’re not done. And after you complete an errand, crush it out of the list. It often feels relieving and motivating to do that, which makes it easier to move on to the next task at hand. This is one good way to lower your stress.

Step 2: When things get overwhelming, stop and take a pause.

There are times that stress and frustration build up when we’re on a hurry to have something done or happen. Like working in front of your pc and typing as fast as you can, waiting in line at the bank, or getting stuck in traffic. Tension builds up within you that feels like your chest is getting tighter and and your head is about to blow.

The best thing to do is take a pause. STOP. Cut that busy and rushing train of thought and focus on your body. To help you out, practice the 4x4 or square breathing. What you do is take a breath for 4 seconds, hold it in for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, pause for 4 seconds, then do the whole cycle again. This is what therapists call a “conscious breathing”, where you divert your attention to your breathing and helps you forget the tension building up.

Step 3: Go out and enjoy the scenery.

A research done at the University of Essex found that spending 5 minutes outdoors, especially near a body of water (beach, river, pond or fountain), can raise self-esteem and improve your mood. Why not try to take a break during your busy day to go take a walk along the park or coastline?

These are very simple steps anyone can do. Try to incorporate these in your daily life when you feel life is crushing down on you. There are more ways to lower your stress but these three have been found to be most effective!

  1. cool! first time to comment since i started reading and posting reactions in this blog. this is a very nice article because not all people are open in making adjustments. take note ADJUSTMENTS and not CHANGE. i admit to myself that changing something out of our daily routine is really tiresome. what sounds to be simple when put to action is really difficult to do. this 3 steps is very helpful especially to us, students because these 3 steps doesn't really need much time, and effort. all we have to do is just spare a minute and we will all be STRESS FREE. with the help of this article i've realized that it is really better to become a TURTLE then being a RABBIT. we should all take things slowly and surely for us to be HEALTHY AND HAPPY! :)

  2. I am stressed everyday...especially when it comes to school matters! :D This article gave me another idea how to avoid stress, thanks again Yo'Mama. I mentally make To Do List like "oh this time I will study, after that I will watch TV and..." I've been practicing this since high school and believe me it's really effective. It makes your mind more organized and systematic. Like what Ms. Tan said, we should take things slowly and be happy! :)

  3. I like Ms. Tan and Ms. Marturillas' "Take thing slowly quote." You see, I'm guilty as charged in the "Multitasking thing." I just can't help it. Watching tv and studying at the same time. I do end up not learning and not understanding anything at all. Hehehehe. And the taking a pause when things go overwhelming usually ends up in me taking a pause longer than necessary... I end up sleeping or doing other things. I also cram, a lot. I think I'm taking things wayyyyyyyyyy toooooooo sloooowwwwwllllyyyy..... Hehehehe. Slowly is good but too slowly is worst. If only I got my time organized and well planned like what Ms. Marturillas is suggesting, then what a stress free life I would've had.

  4. @Ms. Traces: I know right?? I'm also a fan of 'multi-tasking' as in mixing business with leisure (facebook/twitter + research. and i know it's bad. hahaha. :D). sometimes, i want to run away from all my responsibilities and stresses. but i know that if i don't handle them well the first time, it would still haunt me anyway. so a big thank you again to @Yo' Mama. Aside from the weight loss articles (which is my primary concern. lol. haha.), i truly appreciate write-ups on stress. :)

also about the conscious breathing part, i actually do that ritual every morning. my mom and i used to attend yoga classes regularly for a time, and our instructor always emphasized the importance of yogic breathing. it is really a great de-stresser, and it makes you feel in touch with yourself. no wonder good vibes sink in whenever we 'breathe in a sigh of relief.' :))

ps: yogic breathing (a form of conscious breathing) could speed up our metabolism big time. just so everyone knows. ;)

  5. I strongly agree with ms. traces, by taking things slow or taking a pause, i always end up having longer pause than what is necessary and i end up cramming which makes me stress myself more. I guess the only thing I can suggest especially to the students is to have our time organized since it's the only way we can get rid of having too much negative stress...

trust me, having too much stress can't do you any good. ^^

  6. yes, stress! ahahaha, I just wonder if anybody here on earth doesnt experience this thing. Well, first I'd like to thank:)I usually do that, PLANS. To Ms.Traces, i definitely agree with you, multitasking, common thing, texting while studying, common for us teens, I just think stress is just the biggest monster we always face. And for me, those three things posted above is soooo helpful, thumbs up for recreation :)

  7. i totally agree with you Ms.Pantorilla, and i always end up more stressed thinking of what i haven't done after the supeeeer gooood paaausssee :)

  8. Yey, another wonderful article about stress. This is really a great help for me and for anybody who would open this site. :)
I agree with most of the comments above especially the "MULTITASKING" part. Glad that I'm not alone. Haha. Like yeah, I enjoy texting while I am studying. Even if I can't concentrate, I can't stop myself from checking my phone very minute. I keep on saying that I am stressed of studying not knowing that my "TEXTING" habit is a big factor that causes this so-called stress I feel all the time. Now, I will do my best, like seriously, I will do my best not to check my phone when I'm studying. :D

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeahhhhh. I couldn't agree more with you @Ms. Traces. We should take things slowly. That's what I do when I begin to feel STRESS. I relax, drink coffee, pig out (EAT ANYTHING), laugh, and chill like a boss. :D You should do these too my friends to reduce your stress. ^^

  10. Being a student, is *speechless*. Everyday is a crucial day for all of us. Everyday, we have tons of homeworks, quizzes and whatever. And these are the the reasons why we tend to multitask. I always do multi-tasking. Like it's a part of me already. My day is incomplete if I don't do this :)) no bragging man! Haha. But in the end of the day, I usually fail. *ouch*. I think this is the reason why. :(

I have learned from my instructor about the breathing exercise. And yeah, I think that helps :))

And for the scenery, it's really calming, especially when you feel that warm breeze blowing through your integument. :))

For me, being stress-free, is being happy. :)) lovelots.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I bet you can hardly do that Ms. Remeticado. HAHAHA. Texting has been part of you. I MEAN, don't bother yourself about multitasking (between texting and whatever) coz' texting is no biggie. Besides, i can really sense that it makes you glad. HAHA (FOR YOU) :D

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ms. Traces, it' not yet the end... hehe. The LIFE you could have had will now be yours if you just do the "I SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT" starting this point in time (that you have read Yo Mama's another splendid article :D). LOL

    ReplyDelete
  13. Congratulations Ms. Gabiana! I'm glad for you coz' you've figured it out (that multitasking doesn't have a good end product). And since you said something like it's a part of you already, maybe it won't be easy for you to adjust.

Just do the tips of Yo Mama, and see if they really will help us, SO AS TO CHECK THEIR EFFECTIVENESS and EFFICIENCY. I'll see it for myself too ;)))

    ReplyDelete
  14. i totally agree with Laguda and Ms. Traces. I too as a student is also prone of doing multi-tasking..especially when cramming for exams and when doing projects. It can't be avoided. agree?

But you know my teachers during grade school and high school taught me to do multi-tasking..aka dovetailing..to save time and effort..as i remember it was during economics or tle class..well that's just my experience though..

well stress...you can experience stress even when you are in a good mood...that's why there's good stress-eustress and bad stress- distress..this is what i learned in health..so my idea is that you can never know that you are already in a state of stress...again my IDEA..feel free to object..

The article states that breathing could help to relieve you from stress even for just a while..but mind you, this is not the only thing you can do..there are tons of them...and it also depends on a person..since every person is unique in his/her own little way..each person has their own way of getting away from stress in dire-times of explosion :))) haha

well these are what came out of my mind after i read the article and comments..so sorry if it's long..feel free to debate any of my ideas.. :)

p.s. yo' mama: thanks for letting us use your site!

  16. @ms tan: i agree with you in most of the points you've stressed into your comment like how hassle it is to change something in our daily routine, it can really create chaos since you're not used to it. But then , I'd have to disagree in being a turtle rather than a rabbit.. ^^ (nice metaphor by the way) Being a turtle isn't that safe, you may end up not finishing the assigned tasks since you're taking a lot of time in doing these certain tasks, I think it's still better to balance speed and quality in your work. But, anyway, I know you know that too well, just in case some people might misunderstand it... ^^ (hopefully, nobody's guilty. hehee. ^^)

for the author, amazing articles. i really can tell you have a lot of knowledge regarding health... ^^ (despite the knowledge that you're a medical professor, I've read it somewhere in this blog ) ^^ cheers.

  17. Nice article. I disagree a little bit though. If there's a "good" stress, there should also be a "good" multi-tasking, this is doing tons of things that makes you happy at the same time. I read an article in the past that a person should first measure his/her own stress level, and the first step should be to become aware of the stressors. And also, the "To Do List" thingy, uhm, been there, done that, it's stressful too. School can be stressful most of the times, but it's actually how you manage your time to accomplish tasks. If you promise to devote yourself on studying the holy immaculate super-hard-to-understand book you're asked to read on weekdays, do it if you want to party on weekends, or just simply don't if it's not that important to you. Remember, you were asked, not forced, it's UP TO YOU. So instead of listing the things you should do, list or know your priorites. Again, YOUR priorities, not what others expect you to do.

In case I won't be able to reply to people who don't get my point:
I'm not saying that you shouldn't waste time to study if it upsets you. Again, know your priorities, not what you just like doing. Even if you don't like it, but if it's important for you, then it's considered priority anbd better put it in your schedule properly to avoid complaining and stressing over "not alright" grades later on. I'm not saying that multi-tasking is good, but if it makes you happy, I think it's really fine to a degree.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, I know that no one wants STRESS accumulating in their systems. As a piece of evidence is Ms. Gabiana's statement, "being stress-free, is being happy."

But having even just the slightest (reduced) stress, for me, is being complete. It's for HOMEOSTASIS's sake. Just like in movies, good and bad are weighted balance, but GOOD outcomes do prevail. (not always)

yeaaahhh sorry for the sane yet a bit far-from-the-topic example. :D

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes Kathleen Bispo! I take one up on your thought!!!

Seth Osias, you're good! I'm of the same mind as you!

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Ms. Bispo: I don't think that multi-tasking CAN'T be avoided. Hahaha, i mean, if you're hell bent on achieving something (in this case, being responsible enough to focus on school work), then you would do something about it. if there's a will, there's a way - if not, there's always an excuse. :P

also, time management greatly reduces stress. prioritizing our studies is a personal choice. if we multi-task, it means that we're not that serious. we'd do assignments, sure, but haphazardly. as mentioned, i'm guilty of that. and after some pondering, it always boils down to PERSONAL decisions. so you know, let's just find time for leisure and the more important things in life (this sounds a bit gay. sorry. haha.). read a book, watch a movie, whatever. and when it's time to study, just focus. right?? XD

ps: i wish i could walk my talk. haha. :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree to all the people above that we usually do multitasking to make our things-to-do to be done as fast as we can. I disagree a little bit to those people who said multitasking is bad. Like what Ms. Osias said if there's a good stress then there is a good multitasking. I usually do multitasking like I play my online game while watching tv and studying or making assignments but I don't get stress. It makes me feel good whenever I'm doing it. I think that it depends on how you perceive and do the multitasking thing. Like you do multitasking because you're in a hurry to finish all the things in which you end up being stressed out but if you do it as you please and wish then you will not get stress. For me, multitasking is very helpful and an important skill because in this way you can lessen your stress and sometimes its fun. It's on how you manage yourself. :) Don't also forget to have fun with your family, pet, friends and imaginary friends (if you have one) to keep you away from stress.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have already practicing the second step and a little bit of step 3 but never the first step(heheh)
For me multitasking is my greatest hassle in life.Yeah it is sometimes true that it makes all your work done in a faster way but it makes my body weaker.Eventhough I already feel the fatigue I am still doing multitasking and it greatly affect my mood and health. When I can't handle the stress anymore,I would pause for while and play some childish games. If I get bored in playing I would just walk around our house acting like a weird. These are the ways on how I deal with stress...Sooner I'll try to practice the 1st step.
We always know the fact that we are always surrounded by many stressors so we have should know how to deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I forgot to mention that I like the 4x4 square breathing and it was also very helpful in cutting yourself from stress even for a short time. I'll share this to my family for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thank you to my supporters and fellow multitaskers. I appreciate your concern regarding this matter... Hehehe. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. And I do agree with "some" that deep breathing is helpful. I always do it you know just to relieve myself from stress. STRESS! Hearing it give me more STRESS! Breath in... Breath out... Step 2 according to Yomama, take a pause... Step 3 GO out and appreciate the scenery (even if all you see are buildings and traffic... Hehehe)

    ReplyDelete
  25. S T R E S S

-it's a monster. Yes, I know that there are 2 kinds of stress: the positive and the negative. duuhhh! :P

But people always mean that stress is negative. They always point out that stress is something that makes their life miserable. pretty harsh eh?

Yes, just like what the others said, I'm always stressed out! nahhh. I'm just exaggerating... I'm only stressed out during school days and always looking forward to the weekends. Isn't it right? :)

In the article, I agree only to step 2 and 3 but not with step 1. Why? because just like @seth osias BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! 'twas stressful too. I guess I just don't know to balance my time... :/

Yes I know that stress is for homeostasis... But too much stress can disrupt that.

TAKE THINGS SLOWLY BUT SURELY. I really like that quote! In that way, you can reduce your stress... and it won't make you busy nor stressful!
    :D

People always say that "I'm so busy" but the real thing is: "you're never busy, you just don't know how to manage your time"
    :o
---That's what my teacher from HS told us..

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Ms. Laguda: Permit me to take part to that.

There would be instances that you can't avoid multitasking.
What if things (also some sort of priority) strike you abruptly and you still have a task at hand? In this case, would you really stick to avoiding multitasking?

    No, right?

So in some ways it is an act of being responsible. It's really worth having stress when you have both tasks completed with good quality. After it anyway, you can still manage that stress out. :D

    (Me is demanding) haha

    ReplyDelete
  27. whoaoh.. stress.. one of the most frustrating word i have ever heard..stress lives in my body mind and soul.. one of the stressors is my studies and it really bugs me.. multitasking? nah...hate it.. if i do multitasking i always end up not finishing what should be done..coz i always jump into another task.. but thanks to this article, i'll try to make a 'what to do list'.
also try to meditate, it's a very effective stress reducer.. i tried it once and it really make me feel good, it clears up my mind and lift up my soul..char

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ms. Traces, are you sure that looking at buildings and traffic could relieve your stress? I think beautiful structures of a building can but how about the traffic?

    ReplyDelete
  29. i was totally, literally nodding my head while reading ms osias' comment. I, too, think that writing a "to-do-list" is very stressful. while i was reading all of your comments, i also find it very stressful since the letters are all close together. haha. but i think its just a matter of "mind over matter". you develop stress if you think that what you are currently doing is a complete waste of time. but if you tell yourself to focus on a specific task, you might end up enjoying it and do that task pretty well.

@quenie concepcion: the way your body reacts to stress depends on how you are used to coping with it. as for me, ever since highschool, our teachers are like literally throwing a big spelled out "S-T-R-E-S-S" right to our faces. so since our body has grown used to it, some of us can cope with stress a little better. :) its a good thing you have your own way of coping.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You do have a point Mr. Sabay. I could only defend myself by saying, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Hehehe.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey, nice article yo' mama. I think it would be my first time to say thank you (to you). So thank you, and thank you again, and thank you again, and thank you again. haha :DD

Every night when i'm already in bed, I always plan things that i'm going to do for the next day. But even if I planned it, I can't help but worry those things like what if I can't do it all for that day and it would be too hassle for me to do it and that stresses me like hell! I can't totally help it!

Ms. Traces, Ms. Laguda & Ms. Pantorilla: I totally agree with you 'cause I also do multitasking. Sometimes I'm forced to do multitasking especially when we're stuck with our hectic schedules and when procrastination strikes me. It often strikes me (procrastination) :D

Ms Tan: lesson learned, it's way better to take things slowly but surely than to hurry it up and get undesirable, disappointing and frustrating outcomes. :D

This article is really a great help for us! Pratice it always y'all :D

PS: I WANNA ADD ONE MORE STEP TO YO' MAMA'S STEPS. STEP 4: SMILE :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I can relate with you Ms. Suarez, seeing as we were classmates in High School. "Mind over matter." But sometimes our body's need of rest is just more overwhelming. And if it doesn't get that rest it yells at us and shouts... "I'M STRESSED!"

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Ms. Pantorilla: you have a point in there Ms. Pantorilla! i agree that it is quite a tricky statement but i believe that all the persons active in this blog is intelligent enough to interpret it in the right way. the statement doesn't really mean that you should be delaying or procrastinating things. it is just telling us all that there is time for everything and there's no need to hassle or be quick in it. take it slowly, surely and most importantly, learn to manage your time well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. @ andromedes sabay: maybe traces enjoys seeing other people's reasons for being stressed. i think thats also an effective way of relieving yourself from stress. its like "looking at the bright side". :))

    ReplyDelete
  35. To Ms. Traces, its your choice. haha that is why we are all unique individuals. hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  36. i'm glad we are agreeing ms traces. sleep is good. sleep is great, actually. it's ranked "number 1" in MY LIST of things to do when stressed. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. @ms. suarez, yeah I think I will enjoy it too seeing those tired faces haha :)). Sometimes their faces are funny you know, some are scary and some are pitiful. Life is still fun even you are stressed

    ReplyDelete
  38. I rank eating NUMBER 1 in my list...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Such a fitting topic for a very STRESSFUL DAY!!!!..who woudn't feel exhausted if you flunk the exams again?? :(
HAHAHA.. good thing I've read this and I have come to calm myself and get over with the heartaches. Nice breathing techniques @yoMAMA :))) pretty much effective!!

ahhhmmm just to be interactive, I nod my head and seconded @SethOsias point-of-view. She's effin' right! there are indeed good multitasking stuffs that are beneficial for stress coping. Also, doing things which aren't really your passion could be a stressor too.
where as to @S.S.Gervacio, yah right sweetie TAKING THINGS SLOWLY BUT SURELY helps a lot but..not so slow because we might be left behind by this rushful life. know what I mean?? :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. a lot of people are saying that multi-tasking is not a good idea. but i think it depends on the way you handle it, use it, and how you accept "multitasking" as an important part of living this life that we are given. if you welcome multitasking, if you believe that this helps you cope, helps you focus more, then good for you. others should stop telling other people how to view "multitasking", since we all have different ways of living our lives! (ps. this is not for yo'mama, you're the best. :*)

    ReplyDelete
  41. i agree with ms. suarez I rank sleeping number 1 in my list followed by eating.

    ReplyDelete
  42. wow!~ another stress article for reminding us to keep calm :)

honestly, i have read a lot of articles about stress. But the problem is, I just let it pass through my eyes and not absorbing it INTO MY SYSTEM. waaaa! I really really do want to follow this steps to reduce the stress in me but I can't remember to pause for a while, especially when a lot of things are in my mind. Sometimes, I end up not concentrating, talk to others or freak out. hmmmm! (making the situation worse)

~ how can I stop this not-so-cool thing about forgetting to take a pause for a minute and trying to remember the steps on not freaking out? of course, there would never be someone always beside me that would remind me for like every second.

    ReplyDelete
  43. We were trained to multitask in High School. Maybe some misunderstood me but I believe that multitasking could either good or bad depending on the things you are doing. For example... watching tv and listening to music while studying might not be a good idea... you wouldn't know where to concentrate. BUT eating while studying and listening to music might just help and work too. So I agree with Ms. Suarez that "multitasking would just depend on you"... Hehehe.

    ReplyDelete
  44. stress makes things done but is not fulfilling. so i really agree with the article. so stop stress..

    ReplyDelete
  45. i think multi-tasking is both good and bad. it's good because it helps us save time with what we are supposed to do. but the thing is, when we multi-task, we have a tendency to focus on one thing instead of both so we end up having mediocre results. like in my case, I make my assignments, study and watch tv at the same time. I unconsciously focus in one of these things like studying and so when I pass my assignments, I end up having passing scores, not perfect. If I also focus in making my assignments, I end having low grades or if I'm lucky enough I'll be able to reach the passing score. If you're going to focus on one aspect like studying, you will be able to have bigger scores. And also, as what the author of this blog stated, your body will even be more stressed-out. no offense guys. it's my own opinion. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think having stress is a day to day experience. It could be a distress or eustress, dependiing on how you perceive it. Others think of it as something negative or a MONSTER. I DOUBT it is NOT. Because the stresses(stresszzzzz) that we've gone through have been playing a major role on how we survive LIFE.

I just want to say that stresses in life are actually helpful in a way it BRINGS OUT your own CAPABILITIES of managing your very own LIFE.

And I think through these stress you will become more aware of your own attitude and personality towards coping up with the situation you are in.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i agree with what ms suarez said earlier that multitasking depends on the person who is doing the task. because sometimes it makes work done but sometimes, because of work overload, our body might be strained not only physically but also mentally that can put a risk in our health.there are some diseases that are caused by stress. to reduce the risk, if not to eliminate it, we should follow what the blogger had suggested: stop multitasking, take a pause, and enjoy the scenery while you are still capable.

    ReplyDelete
  48. you're right Ms. Casals, for me instead it makes our work more faster we might end up accomplishing nothing because there are many things running on our minds at the same time! As what I qouted..take things slowly!

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ jam daguman. i don't think you should rely on others to tell you. maybe your body IS commanding you to forget it, maybe that's your body's way of dealing with things. but if you do get sick, well thats a different story. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. @shienna aparece: what if im sooo good at multitasking (just saying) that i am also able to enjoy the scenery at the SAME TIME? hahaha. doesn't that make it okay?

ps. not really pro-multitasking. emphasizing that multitasking can also help others.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I totally agree with S. Osias!!! Multi-tasking is not a stressor to other people. As a student, in my opinion, it's not easy to just take things one a time seeing as there are a lot of things that you need to do for the next day (assignments, study for exams, et al)... :) With time flying by so fast, for me, it would be a lot better to multi-task. I also tried doing the "to-do list" before... It didn't work out :( hahaha... i guess it's just not for me.. ><

And when it comes to stress, just like F. Traces, I think that it is great to just inhale and exhale... This will not only relieve you from stress, it will also relax your tensed muscles.. >_< Sometimes, when stress is too much, I just end up listening to songs and it really relieves me. ^^

Last, (what a long comment >_<) I do not agree with F. Traces when she said "GO out and appreciate the scenery (even if all you see are buildings and traffic... Hehehe)." This is because traffic will only cause us more stress. >_< It's noisy and not calming at all. To me, it would only add more stress. X)

    ReplyDelete
  52. well... ms.daguman,I think that you shouldn't really think a lot about how to stop forgetting to take a pause because the more you think about that, the more it gives stress to you!...you know! And also, maybe you have tried pausing for a while but you're just not aware of it....

    :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. yo mama! yo mama so cool for posting this article. k guys, we are different from each other, we do our own thing, and we definitely have different views on multitasking. i have observed. and my opinion on multitasking (i am agreeing with ms. suarez) is that it differs with every person. obviously haha. works for others, doesn't work for some. if you multitask then at the end of the day, it doesn't make you productive, like you end up not finishing even one task, then stop doing it. (like what the article said) if multitasking makes you efficient and productive, good for you. :D

i cannot relate to the third point which is "enjoy the scenery". the traffic, buildings and pollution together doesn't make a beautiful and relaxing scenery. hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ms. suarez, I think that it does not really matter if your not good or good at multitasking in order to enjoy the sceneries...because you see, everyone can enjoy any scenery even if they're doing something....or even if they're not good at multitasking....whehehe...

  55. @Ms. Casals: I don't think that multi-tasking is good thing because it never really happened that the said strategy was effective. it will only make you tired and at the same dissatisfied with your work. i've read your comment and i think that you'll just have to learn how to balance and save your time and at the same time apply discipline in watching television. you're on the right track focusing on one but the problem is that you are like physically doing it but mentally going somewhere. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ Ms. Daguman: you know it's just all in the mind. if you think of it as a hassle or a burden, then you will never have the heart to appreciate it or apply it. it may also be that you are not worried or stressed out to never feel the need for assistance.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think no one can avoid stress specially for those students who enrolled nursing in CNU like me. It's like your trying to lick your elbow. (ahahah)
Whenever I feel stress, I just sit in front of my computer and play tetris or any computer games or watch movies with my families and friends.I feel happy and relax when doing those things. YEAH!

@ Ms. Remeticado..Lol, never include coffee in your relaxation time. "CAFFEINE IS A STIMULANT AND NOT A RELAXANT". Well, to tell you honestly my doctor told me that when he asked me if I drink coffee as my stress killer.

Okay!REMEMBER, TO STAY COOL AND DON't LOSE YOUR TEMPER IF YOU ARE STRESS COZ IF YOU DO, YOU'LL BE LIKE HIM..>>>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaycLWgMX5w

  58. well ms. rosales, i think that enjoy the scenery does not focus only on the pollution, traffic and others here in the city...because you see, there are many beautiful places that you can visit in order to be relaxed....you can try visiting the beach or go to the province and do hiking and stuff..
appreciate the beauty of the environment!!!

    making any sense? whhehehehe

  61. this article is indeed very helpful, especially for us students who are more prone to stressors (THANKS AGAIN YO’MAMA!!!!!) i do agree with ms. traces and ms. laguda about the multitasking part. admit it or not, we tend to multitask especially if we are bombarded with so many things to do. after reading the article as well as your comments, I realized that we should take things at a snail's pace. don’t rush things. you have an ample of time. learn to appreciate the things around us. learn to perform one task at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. you're right there ms.traces.. I see nothing wrong if you do multitasking especially right now during midterm examination (eating breakfast while studying; you sure can't blame me).. "TIME IS GOLD"..hahaha!! but at some point you are also right there Yo'Mama.. We definitely need to stop for a awhile ad give ourselves a break but then again that could wait.. I suggest guys that you schedule the things you're gonna do so that you won't waste your time on what to do first and what to do last..After doing so, for sure you'll have some time to relax and to spoil yourself a little.. =]

  63. Thank you Ms. Suarez, Ms. Carcallas and Ms. Tan! Your replies drew a smile on my face :)

maybe it's just all in the state of mind. your comments made me realize to be optimistic all the time and hope this time, I will be able to follow these three ways to lower down the stress in me. Wish me luck! haha thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. frankly speaking guys, i TOTALLY DISAGREE ON MULTI-TASKING... :) i am really against it because the more you are on to doing this, the more you are prone to have stressed.
@Ms. Ganir: for me, multi-tasking is not effective for midterms because instead of retaining the facts you have studied, what happens is, all these things you are doing while studying will all be jammed or mixed together resulting to short-term memory.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree to the comments posted above. I've been so stressed this year since I entered college and "ahh" it's so tiring and stressful. I also agree to @ Ms. Laguda, I'm also a fan of multitasking 'cause I really want to finish my work as fast as I could so I could have all the time to relax.

Hmm. I guess all of us wants to eat when we're stressed just like me, I suggest you to open this link, these are the foods that would help you reduce stress, aside from being natural, they are also healthy foods. :) very cheap, I GUESS? :)))

  66. @Ms. Tan: I guess multitasking is alright as long as you know your limitations, though it's not good, but some of the people (including me) we're able to cope up with it and still, did their tasks successfully.:)

    ReplyDelete
  67. @ms. carcallas: i know that there are beautiful places here in cebu to relax and enjoy but due to the busy schedule and all i don't think we can insert hiking and going to the province in our daily plans. hahaha. this can only be applicable during vacations or long weekends. :)) but i don't think i'm willing to wait for summer to de-stress and "enjoy the scenery". i think another alternative is to do something that makes you happy and helps you relax and feel that life is beautiful. (char) :)

  68. first of all, i would like to thank YO'MAMA for this wonderful article. hehe :)

mr. amil: whoa! i've watched the youtube link that you've posted in your comment and it was ridiculous! haha. i've never expected that there's someone who was able to do that in front of many people. it was so embarassing! haha
but anyway, thanks for your advice! now, we already have the idea about the other possible effects of stress in our body and one of it is the loss of mental ability. hehe :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ms. Carcallas, I think Ms. Rosales said "traffic, pollution, etc" is because that's what she sees everyday and it doesn't help her relieve her stress..as expected on those people living in the city. For me going hiking or on beaches is only applicable on those people who are living in rural areas or during vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thanks Yo'mama for this awesome article. I can totally relate to this.

My aunt told me before that I should multi-task to be more efficient and it is way to test how I can manage my time.Multi -tasking really worked for her. She is indeed efficient when she was a nurse. And I have applied this ever since that day. And seriously, I kinda like multi-tasking. It makes me relieved that I can do a lot of stuff though it will be tiresome at the end.

@Ms. Osias. I agree with you! I often get stressed out instead when listing my "to do list" I think it's only up to us to manage our time to avoid stress. I guess we must be happy in doing our work even if it's multi-tasking or not.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Seriouly, I'm not encouraging everyone to multi-task it's just that it became part of me...

@Mr. Amil: your right! being a student is really stressful!(especially a CNU student.haha)

    ReplyDelete
  72. @ms. marturillas: thank you for supporting my point :)) traffic, noise and pollution is definitely not very helpful when you've had a bad and stressful day.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @Ms. Cerna: well, it's just an opinion but isn't it stressed out in the article to really STOP MULTI-TASKING? in my own perspective, you have thought to cope up with it but you may not know the effects it will have in your body. it may not manifest now, but sooner or later you will because of stress.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I agree with you Ms. Marturillas. Ms. Carcallas, it's not everyday we have really have the opportunity to go to the beach, go hiking and watch beautiful sceneries. Seriosuly, I'm thinking what if our school is just near to a beach...i still don't know if I 'll be happy or not:))

Ms. rosales: traffic, noise and pollution are indeed a dilemma! very stressful! especially that we have to face them everyday.....

    ReplyDelete
  75. ms. tan: yeah! me too is not in favor about multi-tasking! you know what? because this would really give us a hard time focusing about the things that we are supposed to do at a period of time. all we need is to balance and manage our time properly in order to achieve it. maybe perhaps, for some, it would be an ineffective way but for me, this would really help. and as what you've said, we must TAKE THINGS SLOWLY. and soon, we'll be able to achieve our tasks if we love what we are doing and we are determined to do it. :))

    ReplyDelete
  76. Not only that Ms. Rosales, it would worsen your day even more just seeing those unpleasant surrounding.

Who would want to relax on such places with pollution, noise, dirt everywhere, and vandals on walls???? Tell me.

    ReplyDelete
  77. so true ms. marturillas and ms. intong! as a nursing student of CNU, it would be so difficult for us to give time on diverting our attention on beach or beautiful sceneries because we'd rather study than doing so right? hahaha. :D

    ReplyDelete
  78. i really do love the 3rd step, everytime i go to province, i usually do love to watch the tress swaying around with the air breeze, and a lot more, i never knew that it would be a big help to loose stress.:) well about the 1st step i think it depends how the person handle him or herself in doing the multi-tasking.then lastly about the second step which talk about getting a pause if you get overwhelm well i think this is a little bit true, because if you get overwhelm sometimes you cant think much due to the emotion you feel already, so better take a pause for a moment then after you can go back to the things you want to do.:)

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ms tan: in my case, i do worry things out. I always think in advance. And that's what stresses me, I guess.

    @ms Daguman: i think you're always calm. :D

    ReplyDelete
  80. i really couldn't say multitasking saves time, i guess it even makes your tasks prolong in the making, to M.Traces, yes, to sci high students like you and me and some out their, we're trained to do this and that, submit here and that, so in our cause, we learned to prioritize things, To Mr.amil, not just bec. we study in CNU then it means everyone is stressing, don't you think proper time management could be the solution to this?

    ReplyDelete
  81. FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO SAID "TAKE THINGS SLOWLY", I totally agree! I'm not the type of person who wants to do many stuffs. Just like the line from a song by Jordin Sparks," JUST TAKE ONE STEP AT A TIME. THERE'S NO NEED TO RUSH."

@Ms. Rosales: You wanna see some beautiful sceneries? Just search it on Google, there are tons of there. Just joking Ms. Rosalaes. I totally agree with you that traffics, noise and pollution aren't beautiful to look at. Let's get out of here and go to the beach. OYeah! :)

@Ms. Ocon: I don't know about that, there's a time that you really have to relax. Don't let yourself get stuck just on studies. Life's too short darling, we can't predict the future. We're not psychic! Have fun while there's still some time. Just organize your time for studying and having fun. Going out isn't a crime, don't worry. About that "being a nursing student in CNU" thing, I know sometimes, wait! I think it's everyday we're stressed out because it's C-N-U, but we really need to have a break sometime. This is getting long, but what I'm trying to say is we need to have a break and have FUN! :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think most of us, or should I say all of us are constantly under stress. Especially us, being students. The steps provided by Yo'Mama (BTW thanks Yo'Mama) in order to relieve your stress are very helpful for me.

About multi-tasking, I agree with Ms. Casals that it can be good and bad. But when I do mutli-tasking with things related to my studies, I usually end up not being able to finish anything. When everything is jumbled together, I just don't know where to start anymore. It just causes me to become stressed. I also tried to make a "to-do-list" but I end still not finishing anything since I just keep on thinking that "when I finish this, I will do this next. Then after that will be another one..." and soo on. But I also think that there are some multi-tasking which good such as eating and talking or eating while watching TV. Hey, it's still multi-tasking ;) And when I take things slowly, just like Ms. Traces, I tend to take things waaay tooo slow which causes me to cram.

Next is the stop. Pause. Take a break. It is indeed very effective but my problem with this step is I tend to take a very long break which ends up consuming most of the time. So I end up cramming which leads to multi-tasking.

Last is to enjoy the scenery. I think this step would be very helpful if we weren't in the city. As Ms. Rosales has said, all the pollution, buildings, and traffic can just cause more stress. So for me, I just would look at the bright side of things, as Ms. Suarez has said. I think that going out of the city like to the beach or something as a change of pace would help you in relaxation and relieving stress.

@Ms. Selloria: Taking things at a snail's pace is a tad bit too slow, don't you think?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  83. BTW, sorry for the long comment. Didn't notice it was that long already. Just kept on typing ;)

    ReplyDelete
  84. HAHAHA...guys? reading your post is very stressful too...don't you think so??
Well, everybody got their own perspectives and beautiful ideas and it's just so amazing that I could hardly point out which is which??

@ms.rosales and ms.minoza, ahhhmm I totally agree with your concern about "the scenery", in this overpolluted environment of ours..it's pretty hard to find beautiful places full of greens. But I think there are still alternatives. Like simply appreciating the good things around you,the beautiful people you've met,be with good friends or recall memorable moments in life.

You know, sometimes wonderful memories are like a beautiful canvass that are imprinted in our mind. You could recall them while listening to your favorite music.
And after all, you're already watching your own life sceneries. isn't that great? :)))

I've done that and it helped me<3

    ReplyDelete
  85. @ms.Rinon, have you been stressed lately? haha..just asking! By the way you typed it showed how preoccupied you are! :D Anyways, I could see you have a hard time in coping with stress because you are not so favored on the 3 tips above.

I just want to help,if it's fine with you.

I think you should be more Time Concious. Being aware of the time would help you organize your ADL. also, set your priorities so that you won't take too much break--unless that's your prioity! HAHAHA XD

Last thing, perhaps try to encourage yourself in achieving your goals(to-do-list),just like giving yourself a reward for accomplishing a task!
    Self-motivation, that's it!

Oh, by the way..have you check the mirror?? LOOK, and you'll find a beautiful SCENERY!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  86. If @Ms.Traces stressed out that EATING is her coping mechanism and as for @Ms.Suarez is sleeping, mine would be just plain HAPPY THOUGHTS :)

i was starting my year with optimism like entering the class with a smile while everyones busy cramming for exams and many find it weird, still dont care. :) so i think the only thing im stressed about now is dealing with people who are too stressed enough, too noisy on blabbering about their problems and ITS A WASTE OF TIME! --> STRESSING! URGH! they are so hard to get along with. as much as im trying so hard to start the good vibes of the place, they just blow me off.

i know, i know its dramatic and safe to say that OPTIMISM AND FAITH IS THE KEY but its the basics and it really helps. STRESS is all in the mind, and its just how you deal with it just like what @Mr.Gervacio said.

i know when people hear the word stress, its always associated with failure, in reality there's no such thing as failure but delayed success.

Too long comment? Hahaha dont get stressed about this. HAHAHA! God Bless everyone :)

  87. LOVE THE CONFIDENCE YOU HAVE THERE @MS.NIALA,
THAT'S ANOTHER WAY TO COPE UP STRESS,
    STAY BEAUTIFUL :)

  88. Stress is everywhere. It can be at home, at school or even anywhere at a given point in time.

@Ms Traces, I believe that multi-tasking can be either good or bad like as to what you have said because as for me, multi-tasking is usually helpful especially when u have plenty of works to be done like household chores but it is also a disadvantage for me in my state when I'm studying (like listening to music while studying my notes) because it can cause distractions and can took away my focus on studying.

As for breathing, it is usually a good exercise when your nervous or uncomfortable about something because it really can cause relief just like me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Actually Ms. Nuez u can also get a long with your stressfor it can be either good to your body like the eustress or a negative stress also know as distress. Actually it only depends on your coping mechanism on how you deal with stress.:)

By the way I would like to thank Yo'Mama for this article because it really is worth sharing for everybody.

  90. Aside from looking at myself at the mirror ms.Niala :P, the this article made me realize is that I have unconsciously lowering my stress level every time I ride the ferry home, especially if it’s in the late afternoon wherein you can see the sunset. It’s really beautiful and it makes me feel relax and worry free even just for 30 minutes. :D Especially that it’s been REALLY stressful for the past weeks. It’s like the year had just begun but I want for it to end already…

I disagree with ms. Salera that stress are helpful, especially if their bad stress. They’ll just make you feel down. I don’t find anything good in it. Stress is the cause of 70% ailments/diseases in the world. So see… bad stress isn’t really good…

    ReplyDelete
  91. Aside from all those amazing ways to get rid of stress, there are also scientific ways to relieve yourself of stress (such us the use of neurochemicals) :>

Gaaaah how awesome life could be if only there was a HAPPY PILL. ❤ Oh oh and stressed, when spelled backwards, says "DESSERTS"! :P Just don't forget your limits :D

    ReplyDelete
  92. @Henelle Enad

Of course, bad stress wasn't supposed to be good xD

Anyways, no matter how we look at stress, we still can't change the fact that it is unavoidable.. but it's not completely uncontrollable. Thus, articles like this are very useful :)) But the tips above are just suggestions.. i think, stress control needs individuality.. Because at the end of the day, we, ourselves, are the only ones who knows the true drama behind our stress :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. @apolinar

yeah! if only there was. :( it would've been easier to take everything away with just one pill. but i think it's also better if there wasn't. having stress and having to deal with it is another thing that makes our world interesting. it would be so boring how each one of us would be so free and happy and carefree just because it's just one pill away xD gawd, everything would be so boring!! it's nice to have a challenge sometimes :))) just dont take it too far. but i do like the desserts idea :) i'm craving for one now!

    @carnicer

it's kind of a yes and a no. stress, i think is avoidable when you have a clear view of what's going to happen. if you only orient yourself that maybe, hey, a stressful event is going to happen, then you can prepare yourself for it. fight or flight: it's either you charge towards the stress or avoid it. but there are still others though that can't be avoided. but some can still be :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. i can't find my comment here. :(( i posted next to ms. buencaloloy. :(( what happen?

    ReplyDelete
  95. so i guess everyone here is no stranger to STRESS considerring the fact that being a student, especially a student from cnu (xD)..haha.!, will always feel stress at all times..

STRESS is the most common reason for every illnesses known to man..that's because it affects almost all the systems of our body..so the best way to keep things at ease is to be relaxed and in control..dont be in a hurry..everything will always finish in the right time with a clear head..a crowded mind makes it difficult for you to find solutions to you problems..

being stressed out in a stressful situation doesnt really help out..just keep things slow and easy..it will make you think clearly..dont overreact or be too pressured.. it will only add up more stress..

so to make the long story short, just keep a clear mind..stay calm..and dont overreact when something doesnt quite go as planned.. :))))))

    that is all...thanks..! God bless y'all.. :)))))))))))
