The Diabetic Diet for Type 2 Diabetes

The diabetic diet for Type 2 diabetes does not need any special diabetic food but rather the need to pay attention to the right nutrition which is needed by the body. In most cases, your doctor will provide or perhaps help your formulate an effective diet regimen for your case. This regimen will not only be good for you but this will also help you shed the extra weight especially if you are obese and maintain it so that your body will have blood glucose levels that are healthy.

The goal of a type 2 diabetic diet is to maintain a healthy blood sugar level to avoid further complications. This is also followed so that blood fats will remain at a level where it will not risk the diabetic person to have vascular diseases which are common complications of this medical condition.

Nutritional requirements will differ from person to person. It can be influenced by a lot of factors like the current health condition of the person, the financial status, the location and the willingness to subject oneself to diet modifications. Now, these are not the only factors that are going to influence the nutritional intake of a person. There are factors that can easily be altered while there are others which are very difficult to change.

Basically, a diabetic diet for Type 2 Diabetes will comprise of the following nutrition recommendations.

·        High Fiber (leafy vegetables, oatmeal, and fruits)
·        Low Fat Dairy Products (Non-fat milk, and the like)
·        Increased Water Intake (8 glasses or more a day)
·        Oily Fish (have you tried White Marlin? Perfecto!)
·        Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
·        Reduction of Saturated Fat Intake (this includes French fries, burgers, junkfood, and such)

A diabetic diet for type 2 diabetes will not require you to make drastic changes in your diet. You just have to be very mindful of what you are eating and the amount that you consume. It is even not necessary to restrict your diet except if the doctor requires you to do so. You have to pay attention to what your body needs because this way, you will know which diabetic diet is best for you and your condition.

If by chance you may have been overeating, you have to counter this with a healthy dose of exercise so that you will not gain the extra pounds that you are aiming to avoid in the first place.

A type 2 diabetic diet is really not that complicated. It just involves healthy eating with constant monitoring, the right dose of healthy exercises and the right medications.

Yay! @Yo' Mama, thank you very much for posting an article about diabetic food choices. i was actually the one who asked you if you could post an article about the said topic. now i know that there are so many food types that they could still enjoy (we never knew that dairy products are okay; we feared that they may be contraindicated or something...:D) my grandparents have type 1 diabetes, but i suppose that it also applies to them. :)

they went to a homeopathy clinic once, and their doctor advised them to eat only FRESH veggies and fruits (organic if possible) and nothing else. by fresh, i mean raw, handpicked greens for 2 weeks. after that, they could incorporate fiber rich foods. with that routine in their diet, they resolved to exercise and get busy. well, it was pretty hard at first. after how many weeks, we saw some drastic changes. they really lost weight, and they feel much better now. :)

  2. Another helpful article. I don't have diabetes but iso'k, I can share this to anyone if they have diabetes. Hahaha But I guess the diet applies to anyone, with or without diabetes. And by reading @Ms.Laguda's post, this diet really works, together with the excercise. I'm just curious if diabetic people can drink fruit wines too, and some burgers have fresh vegetables and fruits like lettuce and tomato (fruit? not sure. Hahaha), so is it fine for them to eat it without reducing intake? I wish they can still eat it, because burgers make my happy.

  3. Here's another interesting topic from yo mama!

Even if I never had any family trace of diabetes, I still find reading the article very helpful because I know the said diet plan isn't only applicable by those diabetic bloggers but also to all! I eat, you eat, we all eat sweets--that's very essential for living!

@RC Laguda..hey girl, 'twas very nice to know that your grandparents already are into the diet plan..I hope you are also into it? You know? just a friendly advice :))) Diabetes is really very hereditary right? So as early as now you could start a healthy diet and lifestyle too so that you could at least prevent your early signs of diabetes! :)

  4. YoMama, thanks a lot for this article. I've been waiting for this..it would really help my grandma!

From the comments of the people few days ago (spotlight focused on me 'bout diabetes thingy?...lol!) I realized that I need to be cautious with the foods that I eat as early as now to prevent further complications...thanks guys for your comments! what all of you said opened my eyes.

Ms. Laguda, my grandmother was given a diet plan but she sometimes fail to follow because of her cravings!...grrr it's really irritating!!! Good for you your grandparents were able to do what was said by the doctor. :)

  5. another helpful article. thanks @yo mama. :)

@ms. Laguda - good to know about your grandparents. just want to ask something. I hope you could answer this. it says in the blog to include leafy vegetables in your diet. before, my parents instructed me to include any green leafy vegetables every meal. after some time, I noticed that I'm having a hard time breathing and this occurred frequently, more frequent than the times that I am being attacked by my heart disease. and so, my parents asked my relatives about it. they said that a person having heart disease should be eating green leafy veggies rarely. that was what my grandmother that used to be a doctor told them. Is this really true? just wondering. :)

  6. nIce billbOard pic uP there Yo' Mama..anothEr eye Med. cAndy today for our laughs :D & not just that though you opened up again another interesting topic and I guess I should also be aware regarding this one coz i've got a family circle having diabetes which means I'm also in the danger zone. so on Seth Osias post i wonder how boring my life would be without thOse lustful foods and always maintaing the same type of fOod for the rest of my life!!!! (*my GASS) well I know that there are always barriers and limitations in our life tO able us to switch off those switches of regrets in the future and just like this one we must control our diet and increase intake on these types of food especially me coz I'm prone to that..dO the math...Healthy Diet + Exercise = HealthyDietExercise (*laugh) I mean a healthy-LOong life.....au rEvoiR and thAnks lOts Yo' Mama o___O

    ReplyDelete
  7. ~ to Ms. Seth Osias, I searched some facts from the internet to answer your question :)

I found out that diabetic people can still drink alcohol but in minimal amount. They should not drink alcohol on an empty stomach and have it with a meal and sip it slowly. If their diabetes is under control, a moderate amount of alcohol has only a minimal effect on blood sugar. A moderate amount is defined as:

No more than two alcoholic drinks daily for men
One alcoholic drink daily for women
    One drink equals:

    One 12-ounce can of beer
    One 5-ounce glass of wine
One 1-ounce shot glass of whiskey.

But I’m sorry, I was not sure about the fruit wine you were talking about.

And for fast foods especially burgers, they can still eat it but only for occasional treats. They should also keep in mind to follow these steps:

Try to keep fat content as low as possible.
    Don't add cheese to hamburgers.
Have vegetable toppings on pizza instead of meat.
Avoid fried chicken and chicken nuggets.
Opt for a side salad instead of fries or onion rings.
Many fast food chains provide leaflets that tell how much fat there is in each serving. Ask for one.

~ and for Ms. Laguda, I would like to add more on the food diet for your grandparents. :) My grandmother has diabetes too, so I can relate to your concern.

A healthy diet is a crucial part of managing diabetes. People who have diabetes should watch:

What time they eat (meals and snacks should be about the same time every day)
How much they eat (meals and snacks should be about the same size every day)
The balance of what they eat at each meal (not too much of one type of food).

They can also follow a plan called “carbohydrate counting”. Carbohydrate counting is keeping track of starchy foods and sugar, which have the most effect on blood sugar.

Hope I was able to add more knowledge about the diabetic diet and help you guys in a little way :)

  8. we are the same Ms. Daguman, my grandmother was also prohibited to eat a lot of rice because it affects the sugar level...(eavesdropping can be helpful sometimes eh? hahaha).

    ReplyDelete
  9. it can be helpful at times Ms. Marturillas! hahaha

a friendly advice for you my dear, be cautious on the foods you eat okay? So you won't be able to experience dramatic cravings in the future like our grandparents does.. okay? :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmm... I really don't know what to say except everything goes back to you diet. I hear some people with diabetes say that "Eat all the food you want since you are still young. By the time you grow old, all kinds of sickness and diseases will come out." But as the article has stated, having diabetes or any other disease does not necessarily that you can't eat certain kinds of food. You just have to eat them in moderation. As Ms. Daguman has said, a healthy diet is very crucial in maintaining diabetes. And so is the constant monitoring.

Just remember, a healthy diet is very important :D

  11. @Ms.Casals, about what you said, its the first time ive heard something negative about veggies, the fact that there are few awful tasting vegetables but, eating less green leafy veggies is NOT A GOOD IDEA.

basic knowledge, all vegetables are healthy to ones body. for me, there are no harmful vegetables that are edible. haha! so yeah, there are tons of research out there and it has been proved that EATING GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES TREATS TYPE 2 DIABETES AND IMPROVE THE HEART'S HEALTH STATUS (okay google it to see it for yourself if you wont believe)

so yeah, getting back maybe when you find yourself hard to breathe, maybe it has to deal when you were trying and wanting to lose weight so bad years ago huh? i think you were just weak and tired thats why you develop a heart disease, as what you called it.

so please it doesnt have to do anything with THE INNOCENT GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES. #justsaying.

    ReplyDelete
  12. In my opinion, this article isn't just for the people who have Type 2 Diabetes. It's not like the rest of the world is safe from any other type of illness.

Willy Angelie Nuez: After doing a quick search on google, I figured that green leafy vegetables aren't all healthy. The nitrate in them can degrade to nitrate which is unstable and is harmful to our body. The nitrate in plants is determined by how they were grown (the soil, the fertilizers added, etc.) so you never really know.

    #justsaying ;)

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ms. nuez, i don't think it's really a bad idea (the eating less green leafy vegies idea)since in ms casals' case, she has a disease which might be triggered by these kind of food which already showed her some symptoms like having hard time in breathing... ^^ @ms casals: i suggest you have ur check up to really keep track on your heart disease... ^^

even excess water (which can be the safest thing to drink) can trigger a disease... [just sayin] ^^

    ReplyDelete
  14. Everything beyond the normal set point is really destructive. We all know that everything has it's own limitations.

I remembered the news I saw on TV about that guy who joined a water-drinking contest which eventually died after having 8 liters of water (Actually, I forgot the exact volume of water. The "8-liters" is according to Ms. Christine Roferos). But that was a contest, and the fastest would be the winner. That means, the man just drank all throughout without eliminating some of the water to mantain homeostasis. (I hope you got my point. :)) teehee!)

@Ms. Pantorilla, may I just ask if what exactly the disease is all about? I'm kindda confused about the disease of drinking water excessively. Haha.

And also about @Ms.Casal's statement about the (poor) green leafy vegetables being the culprit for her having difficulty in breathing. Like her, I'm wondering too! ;)

    #enjoying low-fat and sugar-free something. Bwahahaha. :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. really ms. gabiana? hahaha. are you sure you watched that on t.v? peaaaaccceee! :))

by the way, i'm also confused about that disease of drinking water excessively? my reaction after reading the comment is "0.0?"
    so loading guys.. sorry.

  16. Hmmm..I don't have much information about a diabetic diet, all I know is that diabetic people are not allowed to eat sweets or any food that contains so much sugar and fat. Thanks for the information from the article and the additional info from Ms.Daguman.These information gives me more idea on how diabetic people control their diet. These may help me in the future as a nursing student. Now I understand why diabetic people are so choosy on the food they eat.It is just a matter of discipline and self control.
On my side,it depends on how a person take care of his/her health.Knowledge about healthy foods and beverages are always helpful.

  20. Diabetes really is quite a common disease during this time but thanks to Yo'Mama for this article because it can help not only me but my entire family members or even helpful to the community.

@Ms. Taborada, I would like to say that eating a healthy diet is not the only thing important for you also need to do healthy exercise like for example yoga because it can normalize your respiratory rate, blood pressure, increases your endurance level, energy and etc. and so as for me, it's the healthy diet, exercise and most of all discipline to yourself is very important. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Special thanks to the ever wonderful yomama for another knowledgeable article... Hehehehe

Diabetes 2... Hmmm, I can't actually relate but still the new info is very much appreciated. I am actually shocked to hear from Ms. Casals and Ms. Pantorilla that there are "harmful?" green leafy vegetables. I eat lots of green vegetable bur nothing's happening to me. Like Miss Gabiana, I'm also wondering about your disease. Anyway, there are other UN-green vegetables that I hope you are allowed to eat. Hahaha.

But to tell the truth, if I somehow had diabetes, I can't really say I could follow yomama's diet plan. Come on everyone, no junkfood? no fries? no burger? no fastfood? I couldn't think of this happening to me. There are a lot of delicacies I would not want to give up. Hehehehe.

    ReplyDelete
  22. hey, ...I searched about that and found out that it's called water intoxification...
This occurs if a person drinks too much water quickly that it(water) dilutes all the nutrients in the body ...until it reaches to the point that these nutrients can no longer do their jobs (to protect and support the body) and because of this, the body becomes weak 'til it dies...
    tugsh...

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ms laguda: yes, we may consume dairy products, but do take note. its LOW-FAT. there's a difference.

@frances traces: you'll realize when you get there. haha. i mean, yo'mama did state a very important line in her article, "the willingness to subject oneself to diet modifications". so if you are really interested in having the healthy body you've always wanted, no one's stopping you... except yourself. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ ms. andales, i read this article about a woman who died of drinking excess water because she joined this water drinking contest for a Nintendo Wii hahaha. but the catch was, the contestants were not allowed to urinate. stupid right? :))
btw, i've researched and i have found out that drinking way to much water can increase your blood volume therefore putting much burden on your heart and blood vessels. also, if you force large amounts of water into your system over a short period of time, your kidneys will struggle to eliminate enough water from your system to keep the overall amount at a safe level.
i guess what they meant by a SHORT period of time is like drinking 2 gallons of water in just 1-2 hours like the situation with the woman who died because of excess water.
so obviously, if we drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, we are safe from harm and danger :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. You do have a point Ms. Suarez. I guess I'll just have to make sure not to have diabetes 2 so that I won't have any restriction in the food we eat. Our world is just full of distractions, wonderful and delicious, mouth watering distractions.....

    ReplyDelete
  26. ms. traces: hahaha! i know none of us would really resist it when it comes to foods like fries, burgers, junkfood, etc. but i think only depends on the person on how he/she manage herself and apply discipline and self-control. :)

ms. pantorilla: are there vegetables that are really HARMFUL? can you explain why? green leafy vegetables are one of my favorite foods and it helped me a lot. hehehe. just asking. :))

    ReplyDelete
  27. I read the water-drinking article just recently and I can't help but pity the woman as well as think that she wasted her life for a Nintendo Wii. Water intoxication... Never thought I'd hear of such just until today. Dying because of too much drinking, not alcoholic beverages, but water of all drinks. Too little of water could cause dehydration but too much of it could cause water intoxication and death.....

    ReplyDelete
  28. since we are not really sure what exactly ms. casals ate, i read another article that said that NOT ALL VEGETABLES ARE NECESSARILY HEALTHY.. generally speaking, diabetics are often advised to consume a healthy amount of vegetables as part of their daily diets. but what we dont know is that not all vegetables are the same. some vegetables are high on the Glycemic index (difficult for the diabetic body to metabolize). vegies like baked potato (95) parsnips (95), carrots (85) french fries (80), green peas (45), black-eyed peas (40. recommended vegies for diabetics are dried beans
pinto beans, green beans, chick peas, black beans, soy beans, and most especially green vegetables (source:Sugar Busters).

@casals: it is best to consult your physician.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Ms. Ocon: Just can't help myself.Hehehehe

    ReplyDelete
  30. exactly, MS. TRACES, so to avoid having diabetes 2, you should start eating healthy foods. isn't it ironic? eating healthy to avoid diabetes so that you won't have any restrictions with the food you'll eat like the fries, burgers and junkfoods.:))

    ReplyDelete
  31. you're right ms. mae traces. but i wouldn't want to indulge myself too much. even though we don't have diabetes, there should still be restrictions.
there are limits to everything. :)

#Don't dig your grave with your own knife and fork. :P

    ReplyDelete
  32. ms. traces: hahaha. since we're still young, avoiding these tempting foods would be very difficult but we must also remember that these might give bad effects on our body in the near future. you may still eat these foods but see to it that it should be in moderation. ok? hehe :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. i hope this explanation can help regarding the excessive drinking of water thingy! :))

Whenever you disregard your sense of thirst and strive to ingest several glasses of water a day just because you have been told that doing so is good for your health, you actually put unnecessary strain on your body in two major ways:

Ingesting more water than you need can increase your total blood volume. And since your blood volume exists within a closed system - your circulatory system - needlessly increasing your blood volume on a regular basis puts unnecessary burden on your heart and blood vessels.

Your kidneys must work overtime to filter excess water out of your circulatory system. Your kidneys are not the equivalent of a pair of plumbing pipes whereby the more water you flush through your kidneys, the cleaner they become; rather, the filtration system that exists in your kidneys is composed in part by a series of specialized capillary beds called glomeruli. Your glomeruli can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time, and drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of said damage.

  34. Hehehe. No worries guys, besides, "Cowards die many times before their deaths
The valiant never taste of death but once."

I'd rather die and enjoy my remaining days eating my favorite than die not knowing how it tastes at all. Besides, it's an effective way to minimize stress... Less stress means longer life (I think)... So I guess I'd still live longer.

  44. we don't mean that you should stop yourself from eating those foods ms. traces. we're just reminding you to eat healthy and take those junkfoods in which you're referring to as "saturated fat" moderately. but it's good to know that you eat vegetables. so just keep it up girl! hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ms. teves. IKR.. that is why i am telling you not to deprive yourself from wanting the food that you love.. it just need proper discipline of yourself.it's self satisfaction

    ReplyDelete
  46. Actually I'm not saying not to take in food because i know that food is one of the basic things that you need in order to live but what i am implying is that at least you should learn to control your self from indulging too much of it just like Ms. Traces for I know that it might cause negative effects to your body just like an unbalanced HOMEOSTASIS...

:) are we clear now Ms. Aparece....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey there Ms. Marturillas... as early as now? But i just saw you with a Coke Float earlier. Haha. I would really believe and be happy for you if you walk your talk. You should really be cautious not on writing comments but to your diet. (This is just some sort of MOTIVATION, I guess you really should do what you said.) Sarrey! :)) don't take this as a cheap shot okay? Take care :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. i am nit also referring to the food that you think i am referring.. to make it clear, the food that i was talking about are the food that craves most of the us(burger, fries, etc..), not only those green leafy veggies.

  54. hahahaha!! you're right there ms.traces.. it would be really hard to restrain myself from eating those foods especially FRIES!!damn!the must-reduce foods are my favorites..why can't it be the other way around?why is it always the yummy ones are those to be avoided? >.<
Anyway,I know I won't be able to follow that diet plan coz I'm really a hard-headed person but I'll try..hahahaha!!but thanks for the article Yo'Mama..two thumbs up! =]

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Danielle Suarez: Hmmm... I know it's harsh, but someone should change for good. I mean that's a different way of motivating a person. I just don't want to see diabetes chasing her the next time.

    :0

    ReplyDelete
  56. @Ms. Marturillas: HAHA, well...it's really hard to say no to the delicious things in life. actually, my grandparents have a 'cheat day' wherein one day of every month, they go to their favorite cakeshop and eat a slice of their favorite. it's even good that way, because they have something to look forward to. it's all in how they manage their cravings. :D

    ReplyDelete
  57. @sarah padigos: that's a nicer way to put it. (haha). i agree with you but changing doesn't always mean terminating delicious foods from our food list, just minimizing our intake. she may or may have already started changing. you must have just caught her in a bad time. maybe we should ask her. :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks Yo' Mama for this helpful article. I agree again and again to all the people above most especially the part wherein this is article does not go to diabetic people only but to all mankind. Thanks also to Gabiana for opening the topic about water intoxication. For me I was not shock when I heard about it because I believe that too much of everything is not good. See even the most vital source of life in the world is not good when it exceeds. About the woman who died because of the water, I pity on her and a little bit angry because she is so dumb. Her life can buy millions of nintendo wii but at least she contributed to the lessening of the population (no offense but its true, haha :P) Good that this diabetes type 2 isn't that hard to fight because all you need to do is to take the healthy diet heartily if you really care about yourself and the people around you. All I can say eat and drink moderately, not too much okay? Balance everything.

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's LIFE Kyzza Ganir, you can't set things under your control. But you can CONTROL yourself if you just let that spirit of DISCIPLINE come out in you. Just learn to...

to stick to how things stand.
    yahh, just TRY.

hahaa . Try sticking on the diabetic patients's parameters, their diet must NOT be only for them but it's for ALL, as carluth Niala said. :D

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Danielle Suarez: Thanks!

haha.. yes, maybe i'm just overreacting. haha.. but the way she said it ("as early as now"), it sounded serious. But anyway, let's just let her do her thing. She's old enough though, and clever too. :D

    (ohh, that was a compliment!)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree with you Ms. Padigos, its just a matter of disciplining yourself. Discipline, discipline, discipline, discipline!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. ms. Ganir: hahaha! lift your spirit up! there's no harm in trying! hehe. as mentioned on the previous articles, you must TAKE THINGS SLOWLY. and soon you'll be able to do it. eating your favorite foods isn't that bad at all, you just do it in moderation. (sorry for this redundant word! haha) maintaining our health is one of our concerns and in order to achieve it, live in a healthy way. :))

  64. @Ms Aparece, I know that there are also some people that prefer something that would really add up to there cravings for foods such as what you are talking about (burgers, fries, etc.) but still what is the use of eating this food even though you know that it also cause harmful effects to your body right?

Well if you are referring to me then I usually have limits in eating foods because diabetes runs in my blood and i knew even to myself that i don't want to worsen my condition especially to the point where you are hopeless and can't do anything so that's why i usually give value to what I eat unlike Ms. Traces.....

Taking things moderately as to what Ms. Ocon said.... SELF CONTROL... :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. oh diabetes ones again, well, maybe everything is placed on top, what more should I say? type 2 diabetes, hmmm. I was wonderin' on how OILY FISHES really could help from it's name, oily. ahahaha, all i could think of is it's fat content. and for me, for the right medication thing, i've heard that there are certain meds for diabetes that could be an antagonist if you have hypertension, is it really factual? but then, from greeny leafy veggies to diet, these things are the common inmates of the articles here, I GUESS WE SHOULD REALLY TRY THEM and not just plainly reading them. :)

to Ms.Casals: about your condition on eating green leafy veggies and having a hard time breathing, we'll my Aunt is a vegetarian, a full one for years, and she haven't tried of what you have undergone? did you have a check up after experiencing it? veggies might not be the main reason of that. Maybe you're just concluding without prior facts gathered. :)

  66. Thanks Mr. Sabay. Then I should say, you have DISCIPLINE in you.

and you guys there, let DISCIPLINE do the talking.

you can't do the moderation without discipline. be on the track. :))))

  67. what? for your info Ms Padigos, that was the first time in THIS month as in...that I was able to drink coke float you know! Imagine that hahaha. I can see that there are already a lot of issues here arising from food intake especially on the side of water and green leafy vegetables. on water, i was schocked to know that water might cause death to a person because all of us have known that it is the safest liquid we can take in our body. it goes also with the green leafy vegetables. actually, the case of Ms. Casal was really a wonder because as i was reading i kinda agreed to Ms. Nuez that the green leafy vegetable has nothing to do with it. until, Ms. Apolinar posted a very helpful fact. i guess that too much of everything and too less of everything is not good in our body. like what Ms. Gabiana said, everything must be on the "set point" to maintain balance in the body.

well, for diabetes, though i don't have a family member who has the disease, (fortunately :)) it is still good know about the interventions we have to do when having this kind of disease. as all we know, we may not have it now, but there is a greater chance for us to acquire it since we are more on the side of the kind of lifestyle which is exposed to the sweets and all those foods that might trigger the disease. i have read some here who have no relatives of having the diabetes type II. it might not be an interesting article for us now, but this is one way of making us aware what to and what not to eat. for those who have reltives out there who has this kind of diabetes, this is one vehicle for you to help and save the lives of your loved ones.

  69. @ Ms. Marturillas: it's good thing to know that you are now limiting Ms. Marturillas. i bet you are now leaving your stand (to eat whatever you like because anyway you will just be having the disease).always believe in your self and keep what you are doing now.

  70. DIABETIC DIET?????Hmmm.never heard that much except for the fact that they should be cautious about the foods that they are taking in(especially SWEETS!!!!) .

I do agree with ms. apolinar that the article is not only applicable for diabetic patients. this also concerns US, especially those who are aiming for an overall feeling of well being.

Regarding with ms.traces statement of enjoying the rest of her life eating her favorite foods, REMEMBER: EVERYTHING IN EXCESS IS BAD FOR YOU. do not treat yourself with those kinds of food. it should always be in moderation (even if you are about to die na….. @_@ ).

    ReplyDelete
  71. ohhh... I'm sorry for that Ms. Marturillas. I offered my remorse earlier.

I think it's VERY good if you continued not drinking Coke. ahahah
    JUST JOKING!! (now i'm choking) :D ..

The betterment of your body lies on your decisions. So I say, GOod luck and GOD BLESS YOU.

  72. Another useful info yo' mama.!

Young as we are, I know that no one of us now is having any types of diabetes, right? But we could use this info on our profession to be.. hahaha. And as we grow old (in the near future), this will be a very helpful info for us. haha (thinking ahead again).

Well back to the article, yo' mama stated above that in the diabetic diet the intake of saturated fat should be reduced ( french fries, burgers, junk foods). So this means that they still can eat this kinds of food but only in minimal amount? or what? Can you please answer this guys! I'm curious :D

Ms Gabiana: I also read an article in Reader's Digest about the contest in drinking water thingy that causes his death right away. Too bad, he sacrificed his life in exchange for some bucks. :(

Ms. Suarez: true? there are veggies that are not good for some of us? haha, kinda' new to me. 'cause all i know is that Veggies are ALL good for the body. My mom always force us to eat veggy to the point that we can hardly swallow it anymore. (way back when i was a kid). :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. @christine roferos: yes, i can also say that vegetables are good for the body. but there are certain conditions that people may get that requires specific vegetables to eat and specific vegetables to avoid/minimize intake.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @ms. roferos: yeah, i guess you can still eat. but you have to limit your intake. should be really minimal. "One of the important diabetes nutrition guidelines is to eat less than 7% of calories from saturated fat." :)

  75. LOL,to Mr. SABAY's comment..!!!
Dude, death cannot be the right answer for our growing population. That woman deserves a medal for doing such an epic act.

To Ms. Casals, maybe whenever you eat green vegetables(especially leafy), it will get stuck to some parts and I don't know where... just kidding!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thanks @yo'mama for this really interesting diet tip:)
@Ms. Ruferos: I think they can eat french fries,burgers..in a minimal amount and eat them not always, maybe monthly:) coz, let's admit it, we enjoy eating those foods coz since childhood we're exposed to them. And we must also be able to eat foods that makes happy:)

    And I have searched also...

A prospective study in the prestigious scientific journal Lancet followed more than 3,000 young adults for 15 years, and showed that those who ate at fast-food restaurants more than twice a week had gained an extra ten pounds and had twice the risk of insulin resistance (a risk factor for type 2 diabetes) compared to those that ate fast-food less than once a week.

A study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association showed that adults eating at fast-food restaurants consume 205 more calories per day than those who don’t eat out.
    http://herbalwater.typepad.com/ayalas_herbal_water/2010/01/what-do-burgers-and-fries-have-to-do-with-diabetes.html

Figuring out healthier options at your favorite fast food burger chain can be tricky. A typical meal at a burger joint consists of a "sandwich", some fries, and a drink, which can quickly come in at over 1700 calories for something like Burger King's Triple Whopper with a large fries and a 16 oz. soda. A better option would be a regular single patty burger, small fries, and water, which is about 500 calories. Alternatively you may enjoy a veggie burger smothered in grilled onion and mushrooms. Or if you want a large beef burger, then skip the fries and soda and have a side salad and water instead.

  77. @ Ms. apolinar: you're totally right this article isn't just for the people who have Type 2 Diabetes, it's for us to be aware and kinda use these facts for ourselves to ponder and to share this to others.

@Ms: beuncaloloy: I think oily fishes mean there that those fishes which are rich in omega 3 like tuna!flakes in oil:D

The Omega-3 oils make up billions and billions of cell membranes in our body and since they cannot be made by the body, their health benefits are only available by eating a diet rich in fish, or with a Omega-3 supplement. Its importance in heart, brain and circulatory health make it a dynamic anti-aging supplement. They help lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol. This adds years to your life expectancy.

  78. @Ms rosales: so it's a misconception that diabetic persons aren't allowed to eat that kinds of food anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think you have already forgotten ms. Buencaloloy about the article, the benefits of fish oil, still by Yo mama. It was the time when we still have to use a pen and paper, remember?... :D I guess you’re just too stressed-out that you forgot…

@Ms. Casalls: Aside from being very nutritious, green leafy vegetables taste really good too, though others may not agree with me. I enjoyed eating them most than any other vegetables, yum.

As I have mention in the past articles, my father was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. He really is conscious of what he is eating while my mother monitors it. So, thanks Yo Mama for having this article. This will surely help my father with regards to his diet.

  80. @Ms suarez: you mean veggy is a no no to a diet specified for certain person? So it's selective, depending on that certain person. Right? :D haha

  83. @Ms intong: now i know, haha. 'cause most of the people i know who has diabetes has been deprived to eat this yummy foods. (for me). especially when these foods are their favorites. It would be very devastating. :(

  84. Yo Mama! Thank you for this very helpful article. I don't have diabetes and I hope I won't be a diabetic person in the future. lol. I'm indeed a fan of eating burgers and junkfood and etc. I just wonder why we have to avoid/lessen eating these kind of foods? ohhh, though I love eating veggies (green leafy veggies) but, I guess, I just can't take it if I eat it everyday. :))

@Ms. Daguman: Thank you for that added info! :) That could really help me in convincing my uncles not to drink too much alcohols because they might develop this certain disease. :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. This article is really helpful for those who have type 2 Diabetes... But just like the others said, the diet is also applicable even to those who don't have it. Because it incorporates the healthy foods right? it's so obvious... yeahh with exercise you'll get the best results to it.

Even though i don't have the said disease, I can and will share this info to others! it's so easy right? at least we can help them in our own little ways!

@Apple gabiana: I also saw the news about the one who drank lots of water in a contest thingy... Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia...

  86. I totally agree to you @Mr. Sabay: It's just a matter of discipline, so, I guess, I have to discipline my self and eat a lot more nutritious foods. :P (I hope I can, lol)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Wow.. water intoxication.. that's new~~ >_< but it's not a surprise that there is such a problem... after all "Too much of something is a bad thing." :D :D

Diabetes is something I can't relate to but knowing that these things are important for the future that is ahead of me.. I'm very grateful for this article... ^^

@j. Casals... Since eating vegetables every meal would mean labored breathing for you... I suggest that you eat vegetable one meal per day.. and the other meals you substitute vegetables with fruits. After all, fruits are not only healthy.. they're a lot more DELICIOUS than veggies.. ^^ Since I don't eat vegetables, my mom told me to at least eat fruits. Fruits are actually a great substitute for vegetables.. :D :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  88. @F. Traces: I TOTALLY agree with you!! I can never stop myself from eating delicious food!!!! ^^ hahahaha~~~ Why not eat and feel satisfied with the food you want to eat, right? Because of health problems?? Everyone will die someday, so it would be better to taste the food we want to taste rather than always thinking of how the food would have tasted. :D

  89. As usual, everything starts on what lifestyle you are living, on what food you eat and what activities are you doing. Whew! People should be aware about this. HELLO? PEOPLE? YOU JUST CAN'T KEEP DEPENDING AT GOD JUST TO HAVE GOOD HEALTH! IT COMES WITH ACTIONS, YOU KNOW? IT WON'T JUST KNOCK AT YOUR DOOR AND POSSESS YOU! HALLER?!
We, should consider what to and not to eat. Ughh! Why does foods can kill you? Eating is LOVE! XD

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ms.Roferos: I guess ms. suarez did has a point. I agree with her because there are certain vegetable types that aren't really good for a certain type of disease. Not really depending on that person but it's essential for ones health status.

Just as in a diabetes 2 diet, starchy vegetables like :Sweet POTATOES, PEAS, CARROTS and as well as fruits that are starchy like bananas as the highest.

    ReplyDelete
  91. @Ms. Li I smiled while reading your comment. "Everybody will die someday, so eat eat eat while you're still alive" - something my father would always say especially when other people warn him about his food intake. He doesn't care. And it's a good thing. Others are too conscious of everything they take in. Live life to the fullest pals. Just don't deprive yourselves from what you love, and always take control.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Oooohhhh, an article about Type 2 Diabetes. The husband of my tita have this type and I idolize him so much. Why? Because even if there are foods that are already off limits for him, he would always find a time - even if just for once - throughout the whole year to eat those "OFF LIMITS" foods. The idea of feeding himself with these foods just for once and not stressing himself of what it may cause him is what I love the most. He doesn't care. Just for once. He lives his life with positive thoughts all the way, and I'm sure that his optimism will somehow help him. Not physically, but mentally. And that is what really matters most.

    ReplyDelete
  93. @miss remeticado.

uhmm, i guess you're right about spending and living life to the fullest but not giving a care would make things worse. :) from experience, i've always been the person who doesn't really care about anything, but a lot of things had happened, BAD THINGS -_____- because i just took it for granted. i guess you could tell your dad about it. it's great to have that guilty, pleasure inducing food intake but being too conscious and withdrawn when eating? that's just too bad and bogus. eat while you can dude! but also control when you can! i pity those people who are soooooooooooooooooo particular with their health in ways that can affect their life satisfaction. but hey, that's how they are. maybe your dad have those unique and individual and personal ideals, but convincing him to take it slow would really help :) it's always nice to break a rule or two :) but again, a little control would go a long way :'>

  94. have lotsa things learned here, not only from @yomama but also to all those you replied that the green leafy vegetables has a dark side. so all things has a negative side. hahaha

then there was silence, @Ms.Casals are you still alive? okay i apologize for my minion intelligence, I accept defeat bwahaha!

oh! thanks @ms.tan for the support that i really have an idea, right? like i was thinking, where were the stuffs that preschool teachers have said that we should eat those green vegetables? hahahaha anyway,

but as i say, there's no such thing as failure guys, just delayed success. ill have my time soon with this arguement thang. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. @Rossini Remeticado

I agree that we shouldn't deprive ourselves of our cravings but i think it should be paired with exercise and such.. so, your dad does exercise, right?

    so yeah, live life :))

    ReplyDelete
  96. TALKING about Cravings!
Imagining myself eating all of my FAVOURITES.HMMM..yumyum..

But then TOO much of everything is BAD.Depriving yourself more is also too bad. :C

You just have to pay ATTENTION to the appropriate kind of food. Appropriate means eating what is good for the health and choosing nutritious diet :D

Well, it's not that bad trying to be mindful on the things you want to eat as long as you keep an eye on your diet. It's better than ending up having all the complications on you body, right??

Thanks yo'mama..this article is very helpful. It made me realize that there's no need to make some very drastic changes.
We just have to be very careful with the foods we choose.:D

    ReplyDelete
  97. @Ms. Nuez: You're right again Ms. Nuez. if vegetables then cause us harm then why not inform when we're still young. what the preschool teachers are inculcating in the minds of their students is that they are good to our body without taking the shared fact of Ms. Apolinar that it may cause also harm to our body in the form of nitrate. i guess all things that exist has their good and bad side just like us - humans do.

    ReplyDelete
  98. @Ms.Tan, true. i think its best that schools should have medical teachers to teach the kids the right way and @Ms.Apolinar would be a great candidate for that! haha!

so why cant everything be for the best? why does it have to have an evil side? the answer is = life is a maze, we should find a way to choose the right path. AMEN? :)

    #TOOMUCHDRAMAKILLSTOO?

  99. @ms salera: you're right ms salera..eating your favorite food IS yummy.! but like you said.,''too much of everything is bad'. we can eat as many as we want as long as it doesnt put our health at risk, especially diabetic people. we can still eat our favorite foods but we just have to be mindful of its contents and what nutrients we can gain when we eat it.

as mentioned by everyone., its only a matter of discipline. you dont have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods..it'll only give you more urge to eat it,not to mention eating it in a large amount.
    .,which will then be bad..

so, we just hve to discipline ourselves in our food intake.. we're not just staying safe here.. were also really making ourself healthy too..! :D

  100. Yes! i agree with you ms.Hermoso. Healthy eating will really help people like them in so many ways. For diabetic patients, working closely with your doctor, nurse, and dietitian will help you learn how much fat, protein, and carbohydrates you need in your diet. Your meal plans should fit your daily lifestyle and habits, and should try to include foods that you like.

Managing your weight and eating a well-balanced diet are really important . Am i right?

On my own point of view, exercise is also helpful! Exercise can help your health by improving blood flow and blood pressure.

@ms.Salera: your realization are true that there's no need to take a lot of changes. All you need to do is to be mindful of what you eat even when you dont have any illness . As the saying goes, Prevention is better than cure !

    Great article yo'mama! ;)
Your articles would help people learn more facts about healthy living .:)

  101. @ms. roferos: yes, i guess it is a misconception. haha. but to be safe, we can replace food heavy in saturated fats with foods high in monosaturated/polysaturated fats like fish and beans or legumes :)
