Weight Loss Myths - Skipping on Dinner (Number 2!)

They say that you shouldn’t eat dinner because you don’t do anything when you sleep. People think that this means everything you eat during dinner will stuff you with a few pounds when you wake up the next day. This is a weight loss myth.

The principle with weight loss is to eat lesser calories than you burn during exercise. With this in mind, it then follows that it doesn’t matter when you eat, but by how much you exercise daily. If your total calorie consumption per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) is around 1, 500 calories and you burn 2, 000 calories when you work out, it still means you’re going to lose weight. Just remember not to deprive yourself of less than 1, 000 calories a day since this will be bad for your health. Consult your doctor to help you calculate ideal amounts of calories for weight loss.

Depriving yourself of dinner each night can cause weight loss but take a huge toll on your overall health. Remember, the last meal you ate before sleeping would probably be during snack time at 3pm. When you wake up at 6am, you eat breakfast before going to work or school. That’s a total of 15 hours without something to eat. Your body will starve!

As a consequence, your body will leech off your internal energy reserves from your fat or muscles. If it takes energy from your fat, ketones are released to your blood stream. These ketones are harmful if in high concentrations and could cause coma. If you’re out of fat, your body uses your muscles for energy, causing muscle wasting. This is when your previously formed biceps turn to nothing. It doesn’t matter where your body is getting its energy. Either it’s from fat or muscle, your body is literally eating itself.

Dinner is as important as any meal in the day. Dieticians even recommend to people who want to lose weight to eat at least 5 meals a day. That’s 3 meals, and 2 snacks. This is a weight loss SOP. When you really don’t feel comfortable eating dinner, then eat a light meal or anything that will fill your stomach.

Your body does a lot of things while you sleep and it needs calories to function. Breathing, pumping blood, digesting, and all things that keep you alive require calories. Don’t deprive your body of its basic needs just so you can lose weight fast. There is a better solution for weight loss and it is certainly not through missing dinner.

  2. IT is good that dinner is going to be your smallest meal of the day, but skipping it means your metabolism will slow and your brain may not have the energy it needs to maintain natural functioning. This in turn triggers your brain to release stress hormones. These stress hormones are designed to break down stores to supply the brain with energy, and causes you to retain water and actually gain weight. So no, skipping meals does not encourage weight loss.

  3. I agree with yomama that we should never miss dinner. I disagree though with Ms. Andales that dinner is the smallest meal for a day. Based on my experience, I eat dinner the most. One, I am so tired and hungry from school and dinner is one of my stress relievers. Second, i eat dinner... twice. I eat with my brothers and then when my parents come home I eat again with them... Hehehe. Food, is our main source of energy. Even if we are sleeping our body still continues to consume energy. And where do you suppose we get our energy at night times? Dinner of course. Where do we get our energy to stay up and study late at night? DINNER of course.

  5. hello!
    Ms. Andales :
you know I OBJECT that skipping meals does not bring any good to your life....Because there's a study conducted about this... and they tried this with some overweight, asthmatic people...you may say it's pathetic ...but the dieters actually lost 8 PERCENT OF THEIR TOTAL BODY WEIGHT and THEIR ASTHMA-RELATED SYMPTOMS ARE ALSO IMPROVED! can you imagine that?.. therefore, this can really result to a better state of health....what can you say? hehehe..no offense..

  6. Really Ms. Carcallas??That are new facts to me.Thanks for the additional information.I think this article can be link to the article about breakfast.
It is not good for the body to skip a meal.Even if there are studies that proves that there are good results when a person skip his/her dinner. It is not ideal for all,we are all unique.I think it just depend on how our body works.

  7. This is article really emphasizes that having dinner really is important and by the way thanks to Yo'Mama for this because I'm sure many people would be benefits after reading this.. :)

@Ms. Andales I would like to disagree of what you said that dinner is the smallest meal of the day because I myself like Ms Traces I usually end up eating plenty of foods during dinner because i usually consume plenty of energy during the morning,,,

    ReplyDelete
  8. it is really an additional information to all of us...i, too, is surprised when i read this...

uhuh! indeed, all of us has some characteristics that others does not have...
    oh, is that so? ...hahah

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ms. Teves: is that so? I can't see any sign of that one(consume plenty of energy )...hahaha..just kidding....

    ReplyDelete
  10. And also even though I eat plenty in the evening, I usually moderate it the next day thats why i only said usually and not daily...
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm on your side Ms.TEVes!! I also eat a lot on dinner!!my parents just give their food to me when they see that my plate is already empty.I am usually the last one to finish my dinner(sometimes competing with my mother):P

    ReplyDelete
  12. Are you certainly sure Ms. Carcallas? because i object to what you
have said that skipping meals does somehow have good effects in your body because most people
who skip dinner often end up eating high-calories
snacks and junk food later in the night or overeating
in the morning and that skipping meals during the day and
then overeating at the evening meal results in harmful metabolic changes in the body.

That's why even though I eat plenty in the evening, I do still give moderations :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ms. Teves:
YES! I'M SURE ALVY!and my proof is the article that i read...also, we can't change the fact that the dieters in the experiment does lose weight...
Is that so ms.teves? you give moderations? well, can you state some of your "MODERATIONS"?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ms. Carcallas, there is a difference between skipping dinner and having a diet. Misconceptions about diet and fasting. Not eating is fasting and not diet. Diet is carefully choosing the food you eat and not skipping any meal at all.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well some of my moderations are that I even though I eat a lot in the evening in the next day I would certainly try to reduce it for I know eating a lot can also give us negative effect...

Did You Get My Point Ms. Carcallas? :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. i think it really depends on how much a person wants to eat during dinner. we all have different eating habits. so of course, we all have different amounts of food to consume during dinner. no need to disagree concerning what the "smallest meal" is at a time of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i agree with you ms. traces, the exact conversation we had hours ago. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. i can say that dinner is as important as breakfast because you eat breakfast to compensate the number of hours you are asleep while you eat dinner to have your body get ready for the long hours of starving. this principle doesn't mean that you have to eat plenty to keep your body steady and healthy because remember, as what i amstressing from my passed comments, too much of everything is bad.

@Ms. Andales: Hi! i guess that there are no such term as small or big when it comes to meals. what i consider small eating are your snacks. but a meal? i doubt it. for me, it is not good to limit your meals because meals are very important to maintain your body's healthy status. you can never say you have a big or small meal because the amount of what you eat is what the body requires you to have. so, it is not big or small-- it is just ADEQUATE. however, when we say overeating, we are already referring to another story. i hope you understand my point. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. @teves: i think what ms. carcallas is trying to say is that "skipping meals" have certain benefits to SPECIFIC conditions like asthma, since this serves as a part of a controlled eating plan. i also read the article. but it is not recommended if a healthy person starts skipping meals since (just as you said) results in harmful metabolic changes in the body. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ms. Teves: well I think that moderation of yours is for me not considered moderation at all...for you see, eating a LOT in the evening? ... the expression "a lot" is not actually moderation...and also, eating a little the morning after is not also a moderation...you see a little? it's not moderation...hahah...
moderation is eating just enough! not excess not also less!
can you see the light now, MS.TEVES??

    ReplyDelete
  21. What I am trying to imply is that even though I eat plenty in the evening... at least I learn how to balance it... that is my point Ms Carcallas..

    ReplyDelete
  22. I do not disagree to Ms. Andales idea because I think its her eating habit. I agree to Ms. Tan that breakfast and dinner are the two most important meal of the day but I'm not saying lunch is not important. All you have to do is to be able to eat at least three times a day with control and moderation to sustain your body's function. I never skip breakfast and dinner always only once in a blue moon. I really value my eating time and sleeping time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm with you Ms. Andales! dinner should be the lightest meal of the day because there is no need for you to store a LOT of energy. We don't have any major activity to be done during night time...we will only sleep. Well, that's my opinion! but there are some instances that we tend to eat a lot during dinner due to a long and stressful day. I believe it varies on every people eating habit...we just have to remember that skipping dinner wouldn't do any good to our body!

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ Ms. Marturillas, I would like to remind you that even though we sleep, our digestive system is working and dinner is a preparation for the long hours of starving as what Ms. Tan said.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mr. Sabay you have to keep in mind that we burn more calories when we are active and moving around.

    ReplyDelete
  26. another myth on weight loss.... :)

as what I learned, when you sleep you still consume energy to make your body's system work. So dinner is also important... and I think every meal is important to keep us on the go... because we really need lots of energy to do lots of things at day and night! skipping meals is not helpful... did you still remember the rules in finding the quickest way to lose weight that you need to eat 5 times a day? so yeah. that's it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Ms. Marturillas, I know that, but try to think about our digestive system digesting when we our sleeping then you ate less food during dinner time, you could imagine how many hours like 8-10 hours it is digesting with less food.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i agree with your point about "eating habits vary on every people" ms. marturillas but just like ms. tan, i don't think that eating dinner SHOULD be the LIGHTEST meal of the day. though we only sleep at night and we doesn't have much activities, it doesn't mean that there's no need for our body to store energy. it is needed in order for our stomach to have something to work on and besides, if ever there would be an excess energy stored in your body, it will also help you to keep going in the morning when you failed to eat your breakfast. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. as what mr. sabay was saying a while ago, eating your dinner is a preparation in your body to compensate in your long hours of sleep. imagine yourself starving, can you resist it? of course not right? so always see to it that you eat an adequate meal during night time because it is really necessary in your body to stay healthy and fit.

    ReplyDelete
  30. as what the others said. my heaviest meal of the day is dinner.. because i have more time eating in the evening rather than in the morning.but i guess i should start balancing my diet. as what others said that more energy is used in the morning because of physical activities but meal is also important at night for our the functioning of our vital organ.

    ReplyDelete
  31. c'mon guys, it's just my opinion. hmmp.. i remember ms. traces posted a comment to the other article saying "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper" ... tooodlllleeesss!!

  33. well, i agree for those who said that it depends on the person on how much he or she likes to eat his/ her meal for we are different in all aspects especially when it comes to eating, we can't refuse our stomach when it starts to starve right??? All we have to do is to eat, eat, and eat but, too much of eating is not advisable and i disagree for what's been said that we must eat too much in dinner for the digestive system's preparation. NO! i mean, what really matters here is the fact that our body only needs the adequate meal for each day. Another is that ,eating meals for the day depends on one's body condition for some are recommended to eat lesser for their dinner for the fact that their intestines are already working slowly as you sleep compared to when you're still awake and the digestive system can't digest well because of that .And, in my own opinion, dinner don't have much contribution on loosing weight, but on how you control and choose what you have or should eat for there are many food that may increase the calories even if it''s not that much and there are food that even on how much you have eaten it, it doesn't increase your body calories that much. So it's what a person should count on eating and of course, exercising daily is a huge help to the body. CHOOSE,EAT AND CONTROL especially breakfast before anything else.Thank you.

  34. This is really a wakeup call to all lazy fat and overweight people. Obviously, skipping a meal is easier than having to exercise a couple times in a week. Fat people tend to think that eating is what makes them fat. Hahahahaha no. I could eat two times the number of meals you eat every day for a month and manage to have the same healthy body figure, challenge accepted. Skipping a meal won’t do, you have to stop being lazy, get your ass off the couch, and work out. My point is: You eat fat, you are now fat, so you stop eating fat, but sorry, YOU ARE STILL FAT. Solution? burn the devil fats to hell.
-___-' I got a little carried away sorrehh. It’s just so sad to see fat people having to torture themselves to lose weight. Food is the love of their (and my) life, and they skip it. tsk

  36. Thanks yo'mama mama for this article..

Well, meals should not be skipped may it be breakfast, lunch or dinner (but i always skip breakfast specially when i'm late) :D. 'cause it's the main source of our energy. whenever i skip a meal, i do feel dizzy and my stomach really complaining like hell.. haha

@ms. teves & ms. traces: i think i'm going to disagree with you regarding with eating much food during dinner. 'Cause you don't have any rigid or stressing activities during night. Yes, our body still functions even when we're asleep and that utilizes our energy but i think it wouldn't utilize all the energy that has been stored in your body. And one more thing, eating too much during dinner can 'cause something called in our dialect "UROM". Don't really know why, but others believe that's the cause.

  37. Another TRUE STORY from me :))

Sometimes, I forget to eat dinner because I unconsciously sleep already or, I just don't feel eating at all. BUT, when dawn comes, I really can feel the hunger game in my digestive system. HAHA. And sadly, I tend to eat just to make myself go to sleep again. And another BUT, I have watched a video before about not to eat too much on dinner time. Because, it will lead to weight gain.

So, the point here, like what @Ms.Tan stressed out, is to eat ADEQUATELY. You shouldn't have a small serving nor eat a lot at night. Because though our metabolism happens at that time, we are not moving the same way like we do at day time :))

For me, all of the meals are important because we need them for our everyday lives. But, breakfast should be eaten everyday, because from the word BREAKFAST, which means "to break the fast" it is important for our body to have another stock of energy for the new day.

    #lovelots :))

    ReplyDelete
  38. Even though you're not doing anything you sleep, it doesn't mean your body stopped on working. The next thing you know when you wake up, you are hungry, and you really have to eat, as in, REALLY REALLY! or else there's nothing to be digested and it may lead to ulcers. Do you want that? normal person would say NO, right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think dinner is as important as the other meals of the day. We should eat the adequate amount of food per meal. But just like Ms. Traces and Ms. Teves, I tend to eat a lot during dinner since I have more time and usually more hungrier. Not eating dinner would be starving yourself for more than half a day. Would you imagine that? But that also doesn't mean that you should eat a lot. Just eat adequately. If you are obese and want to get thinner, get off your ass and exercise! :D (not trying to be mean)

  40. A lot of people recommended me to try this weight loss tip, i skipped meal for months and now i just realized how stupid i am because it dint work. hahaha!

@Ms.Carcallas, what do you prefer lose your brain's performance which includes your intelligence on what and how to lose weight, or just lose those 8% of body weight of skipping meals and days, weeks and months after youll become dumber (based on experience)

    #justsaying :O

  41. I read this book once that when you want to lose weight...you should not eat after 6 pm. don't know why.i think it because like ms. aparece said" dinner is the heaviest meal of the day.." .id didn't read the whole thing..it was soo thick i just read the steps..and this was one of it..so yeah, thanks yo mama..

I eat dinner @ 10 cause that's the usual time i get home everyday. Sometimes, i don't even eat dinner cause the viand is not yummy...you agree? I only eat when the food seems good enough for me to eat. so yeah i know that's a bad habit. That's why when I get up early in the morning for school..I can feel my tummy rumbling cause i didn't eat anything the past night.

it is indeed a myth that it is okkay not to eat dinner because of the idea of not doing or not using energy when you are only sleeping..some people just go to understand that (^.^)...

i share the experience of Ms. Nuez...it tried not to eat my dinner many times because of the thought of it helping me lose weight. I realized later in, that i experienced headache and nausea when i woke up the following morning..that's why i stopped it.

    Keep up the good work

  42. I kinda disagree with you Ms. Marturillas. We just don't burn more calories when we are active and moving around, but Mr. Sabay is right. We also burn calories while sleeping especially that our digestive system is continually burning our foods.
so, we must eat a delicious and nutritious dinner. We must never skip them.

A healthy dinner is extremely important as this is your last meal of the day. This meal is responsible for what goes on in your digestive tract, as well as how your body repairs itself. For this meal, load up on dark greens and vegetables so the enzymes contained in these foods can clean out excess waste in your intestines. Protein is equally important during this meal to repair muscles, tissues and organs that have been stressed out through the day.

Too much sugar and fat in your dinner could cause the body to store this fat overnight causing weight gain, blood pressure to rise or insulin resistance.

  43. @Ms. Ocon, it's Ms. Tan 's idea about the dinner thing which is a preparation for long hours of starving okay? hehehe I just want the right person to be credited hehe. I' m sorry its not ATE its EAT. haha

  44. In our family, we must always eat dinner. If possible, we eat together. Though sometimes I don't want to really it, I am just afraid my grandma or my father might scold me:)

Though, sometimes I also eat a lot during dinner especially when I go home after school. I just couldn't resist eating a lot though.

In my experiences, whenever I only eat a little dinner. I tend to be very hungry even in a 6-7 hours of sleep. That's why for me, we should always eat not just dinner but also breakfast and lunch to be balanced.:)

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Ms Intong, I agree with you , I think its okay to eat a lot as long as your work and do things a lot. We need to balance everything.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ms. Intong my point is we burn MORE calories when we are active and working all day rather than sleeping. Yes! we still burn calories during sleeping but not as much compared to daytime...and I never said the word "skip" dinner, i just said dinner should be the "lightest" meal. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. yeah, i agree with those who agree that dinner should NOT be skipped on. like ms. frances traces here, i never skip my dinner. after a day full of activities, i always eat my dinner. loaded dinner i may add. :))

okay so back to the point, if you want to lose weight, eat a light dinner. because usually after dinner we just watch tv or in our case "study" then hit the bed. or sometimes just hit the bed. we don't undertake too much calorie burning activities at night, the only thing the body does is digest the food. exactly what ms. Marturillas said. so they get stored in our body. and we get fatter.
but for me i really dont care, i like to eat a lot during dinner because it makes me happy :))

    ReplyDelete
  48. @ms.Intong - I have to agree with ms.Marturillas that dinner should be the lightest meal. The brother of my friend is a weight loss trainer and they advice dinner to be taken before 6 p.m. It is because if you eat it as early as possible, it could be digested before bed time. This weight loss technique is used in Mediterranean diets which leads to weight loss.

But still,it depends with the person.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yo mama, thanks for such a reflective topic!
I never had this myth eversince because based on the book "4 Day Diet" --whose author I already forgot. I have read it and it also neglected this No Dinner Myth. Indeed, our body always need energy and it never stops metabolizing even if were in our deepest dreams. Don't you know that we burn fats more when we sleep?

Ms. marturillas, if you just know...Sleeping actually uses 1.50 calories per minute, that means 720 calories in 8 hours and if you weight more, you loose more calories.

Also, our cells are more active in repairing during night time. And what makes them able to this is simply by utilizing the energy from the food that we ate during dinner.

I support the words of ms. traces when she said diet isn't synonymous to fasting, it is CHOOSING THE RIGHT KIND OF FOOD TO EAT. Why you get fat..is because of the food you ate and what would make you loose weight: FOOD is also the best answer!(based on the BIGGEST LOOSER REALITY SHOW ON THE PHILS)

So, guys..lets give every meal an equal importance just as important as our LIFE :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with K. Tan. Dinner should be eaten so that your body will not leech off your energy reserves from your fats and muscles. When it does get energy from fats, ketones are released to our bloodstream. As we learned in Anatomy and Physiology, ketones are acidic and will cause metabolic acidosis which is not good for the body.

@ M. Marturillas: People do have their own opinions when it comes to whether dinner should be light or heavy. But I have to disagree with the fact that people burn more fats when they are awake. Because in an article that I read it stated that "Most of us assume our bodies burn more calories when we are awake longer, but that's not true. The metabolic rate is down-regulated with less sleep. Translation: When you sleep less, your body starts to burn calories at a slower rate to preserve energy."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ahahah, Ms. Osias, your bitterness is keen.
THEY'RE STILL FAT even if they stop eating. I guess "ACCEPTANCE" would be the BEST solution for them. It's flowing in their blood already, and if they can perhaps do something about it, it is not altering or reducing their the daily life-sustaining activities but by ADDING more EFFORT (not food ^_^) to accomplish their goal, to be stunningly fit like never before (wOoW!).

Don't keep yourself from LOVE. hehe I mean food, because food is love. Have enough of it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ms. Li. I buy into what you said. In most understandable terms, depriving sleep lowers the matabolic activity of the body, thus maintaining our body's fats inside.

BUT I DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE OF FATS AND CALORIES. I THINK YOU'RE USING THEM AS SAME TERMS BUT THEY ARE IN SEPARATED COLUMNS IN THE NUTRITION LABELS OF CONSUMABLE PRODUCTS, SO THEY MUST BE POLES APART.

    :))) ???

    ReplyDelete
  53. THEREFORE, the 2nd MYTH isn't effective for people who are aiming to lose weight.

the article of yo mama and the people's comments testified the fallacy of skipping dinner as a healthy way of losing weight. Though it can really lessen yer weight but you're letting ulcers and other complications to rise.

(haha. conclusion given. i'm not gonna repeat what others had said.)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have to agree with what the others said. i too, eat a lot during dinner.my body needs to compensate for what has been loss during the day .aside from that, I also have plenty of time when eating dinner which make it more enjoyable compared to the other meals of the day.

To ms. Marturillas and ms. Casals:
Indeed, we burn more calories when we are at work. but please keep also in mind that even when at rest, our bodies are still burning calories but not as much as when we are working (remember the teas which can increase you RESTING metabolic rate????)

I guess, this only proves that all meals are equally important because they keep us going.don’t you think so?????????????

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ ms. padigos, Calorie, is a unit of energy. Nutritionists use calorie to measure the amount of energy in foods that you take in. Calories are categorized by the food source it came from— carbohydrate, or fat, or protein. :) yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  56. @Ms. Marturillas: I just want to make it clear that when I said that we must not skip dinner,it's no more part of my reply to you. It's my advice I want to tell to all of us:)

yeah, we all have different opinions, and I respect yours by the way:)

  58. Actually and honestly, I always prefer to eat dinner than breakfast. I don't know why. Hmm. Maybe because school is really stressful and during night time, is our study time. So, if I study with my stomach empty, well then, my brain won't absorb nothing. So, for me, dinner is really important, and I certainly agree to this article. :) Thank you Yo Mama! :)At least, we we're able to be informed about the positive outcomes of eating dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  59. you're right there ms.cerna...
you must agree with me that foods cooked for dinner are really more delicious than those for breakfast.. who would just wanna eat eggs and sausages every morning?! hahahaha!!!I would even skip breakfast or sometimes not to eat all rather than skipping my dinner because I do a lot of things more in the evening not like during the day when all I gotta do is just sit in my armchair and listen to what my c.i says..
Though I think it also depends with what you were eating during the day..If you had eaten a lot already and just sleep directly when night comes, then you may eat just a little for dinner or even none..

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ms.cerna: yes, we're actually the same.. i agree with you .. i eat more during dinner than breakfast even though knowing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day..because it will keep you going all through out the day..

well, i have heard people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day since it gets your stomach and brain ready for daily activity. then when it comes to lunch it is important for maintaining that full stomach and also feeding your brain to continue breakfast's job. and lastly,we need dinner because even though we are sleeping , organs in our body are still functioning and it needs energy from the food we eat.. so if we skip our dinner then probably it could lead to some complications..

so, i advice everyone to never skip any meal.. And when we eat it must be the right kind of food that can give us vitamins and minerals and when eating it must not be too much ..

Yo'mama..your articles are really great.. it can help everyone to be aware so they can live in a healthy happy life ..:)

  61. As what I’ve learned from lectures, when you deprive yourself from eating or simply when you hunger yourself, you’ll simply feel hungry at first, and for some time, that feeling would be lost. This is when your body uses you stored glucose or glycogen, but then this wouldn’t be enough to sustain your body for hours since you’re sleeping. So, your body would try to get it’s necessity from your protein and fats to have energy for the continuous work that your body does, as an output, your body gets the energy, but then the byproducts would be uric acid, urea and nitrogen for proteins and ketones from fats, which contains too much acid that can cause metabolic acidosis. So, instead of thinking that you’ll easily lose weight, your body demonstrates it’s counter. I myself, skip dinners most of time thinking that it’s good for me, but after reading the first few articles that @YoMama posted about having atleast 5meals to lessen your chances of overeating, atleast I try to eat something light, like Oatmeal even if its night time for my stomach to digest something at night. So, let’s live well, not skip but simply balance and try to control the content of our meal, for us to lose weight in a good way, it may not be that fast, but it’s 100% safe.  SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT

  62. @Ms.Cerna: why do you need to skip breakfast if you could possibly both dinner and breakfast? :)) you can't really say that you are always busy just before school hours start, can you?

  64. @Ms. Alpuerto: i agree. but have you heard about the saying 'eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper'? a modern version of it is the 'after six' diet. the premise of the diet is this: eat whatever you want and not gain weight as long as it is done before 6:00 PM. this is because calories eaten during the day are supposed to be not stored in the same manner as calories eaten at night.

i'm not against eating dinner (like how i skip breakfast. hahaha. lol), but it's all about the portions. it doesn't count if you're on after six and you still overeat during the day. 5 meals or 3, we should also watch the nutritional values of the things we take in our body. that's all i guess. :D

  65. @Ms. Ganir: there are really people like you who skip dinner and are good with it anyway. some people will experience hunger pangs when they don't consume anything at night and it's OK to eat as long as it's good for you. my parents always told me that fruits and veggies should be dinner staples since most of them are fibrous. they could help clean our digestive tract. from personal experience, i tried eating veggies for dinner for a week. i actually felt stuffed in a good way because i didn't feel guilty at all. :)

  66. Ms. Laguda, I am certainly persuaded. :)

  67. Like Ms. Ganir, I also love to eat at dinner rather than during breakfast because of several reasons. First there’s more delicious food :D, second everybody’s in the family table ( we got the chance to talk about different stuff, kid around, etc.), and I don’t really rush at dinner (unless I have to do some really important requirements…). But I keep it a point not to miss dinner and any other meal because of what I’ve learned in this and past articles. Which was, if we want to lose weight better do it the healthy way by not starving ourselves. So lets STOP SKIPPING ANY MEALS…

  69. "THEREFORE, the 2nd MYTH isn't effective for people who are aiming to lose weight." quoted from ms. padigos...

i don't think this is the point of this article, it was clearly stated "Depriving yourself of dinner each night CAN CAUSE WEIGHT LOSS but take a huge toll on your overall health." ^^ so, my understanding regarding this statement is for people who wants to loss weight, IT IS effective but is risky for their health. so it still complies with their goal. (you can't really say all people are health conscious coz i know some who wants to be slim so badly that they dont care bout their health.) But for people who wants to loss weight but are still conscious with their health, this myth or method isn't applicable since it doesn't comply with their goals... :) i hope i've made my point clear without offending anybody. :)

  70. @ms laguda: i strongly agree with your point, it's all about portions, even though there's no carbohydrates intake after 6 pm but that certain person overate the entire day, there's no point to it. it's really true that it's just all about watching and controlling the nutritional values of the foods we eat. :)

  71. @Henelle Enad

I think breakfast foods are better than dinner.. if i can have it my way, i'd have breakfast for lunch and dinner xD

anyways, i agree that starving isn't an ideal way to lose weight. instead, it may lead to-- dum dum dum-- weight gain. we don't want that do we?

but no one can exactly tell what's right for one's body. only you, yourself, knows what your body really needs. so, start listening to your body. but remember, it's not what you want.. it's what you need.

  72. would i rather go skinny and destroy my health? hell no!!!! it has been made clear that not eating dinner can destroy your health, even though it means losing weight. i always eat dinner. DINNER IS AMAZING! hihihihi food is too. :) dinner is the only time our family could eat together (awwwwww, *tears dropping*) anywho, dinner. why would you miss it? i always make sure not to skip dinner. i don't want my stomach destroyed, or worse, my body. :) i really think that dinner is the most important meal of the day, (or night) because you take longer hours of not having to eat even tho your body slows down, which means your body needs supplies (the article HAD elaborated it). guys, dinner is AWESOME! dont ever think you should skip that because of:

    a. an amazing show
    b. studying
    c. texting time with loveyyyyy <3
or d. just because you don't want to.

if you're on diet, it's stupid not eating dinner. miss carnicer said, it can cause weight gain. i think all of us know that too. so just, take care of yourself. even if you want to lose weight, do it without having to hurt yourself :)
    - woah! i feel like such a nerd right now :)))))))

  73. BOTTOM LINE:
Skipping a MEAL is a NO NO!!!
Your body needs the energy to function fully. And skipping a meal will deprive you from getting the sufficient amount of energy needed used for the entire day. I have read some comments posted, i think it is natural that others have their own belief about skipping on dinner or overeating on dinner.
As for me, dinner is really important because it is the time my parents are with us eating a meal together. Not only that, the benefits we can get from not skipping a meal. Because the more you deprive yourself from meals, the more your body demands for food.

If you really want to achieve on losing weight, better consult first to a professional or get rid all of those weight loss myths. seriously!

  75. skipping dinner just to lose weight? i don't think it's a good idea. honestly, i just skip dinner if the meal is not tasty for me. although we don't have so much activities to do in the night, but remember that some of our systems doesn't stop functioning even if we're asleep. thus, we still need energy for our system to function well. and it's not just to have energy for the rest of the night, but dinner would also be a time for the family, to develop parent-children bonds, which is very important for the psychological development of a child.:)
