Is Swimming an Effective Exercise in Helping Me Stay Healthy?

Is Swimming an Effective Exercise?  The secret to getting exercise work wonders is through consistency. You will never lose that excess weight and stay healthy if you don’t keep religious with your exercise schedule. One of the major causes of inconsistency is lack of discipline, commitment, and motivation.

To counter this, I advise that you seek exercise that is enjoyable for you. By creating an enjoyable exercise regimen, you won’t have to dread each coming exercise session. Instead, you’ll be looking forward to it! One of the most fun and enjoyable exercises out there is swimming.

Swimming is a great form of aerobic exercise that everyone can learn and practice. It’s great since it practically exercises all the muscles in your body, including your heart muscle! A healthy dose of swimming weekly can keep you healthy, young, and strong.

A lot of people find swimming fun and exciting. If you are one of those people, then you’d better sign up to the nearest gym with a pool. You can use this as your exercise and you can remain consistent since it’s something you like to do.

So, is Swimming an Effective Exercise?  Swimming, like most aerobic exercises, increases your heart rate and body metabolism. This means that it burns calories and helps you shed off weight. To make it effective, you should swim for at least 20 minutes each session. The 20 minutes must be spent doing laps, not wading and splashing around. You can do this after your exercise to cool off and have fun.

There are a lot of strokes you can use when doing your swimming laps. You can either do the freestyle or frontstroke, backstroke, breast stroke, or the butterfly stroke. The freestyle is probably the easiest to learn and exercises all your muscles. It is a great stroke for beginners. The backstroke and breast stroke are strokes that are a bit tough to learn, but once you get a hang of them, you can easily use them for more variety in your exercise. The butterfly is the hardest stroke to learn. It is a high-intensity stroke for advanced swimmers.

Start out with easy strokes and a few laps each day. Work yourself up when you feel your usual laps aren’t that hard to do anymore. Don’t over exert yourself and do bobbings every end of a lap. Never forget to stretch and warm up before swimming, and cool down after. You don’t want to get hurt, especially while you swim. Finally, it’s best to bring a swimming buddy with you. You can not only motivate yourselves, but you can also watch out for each other in the pool. Is Swimming an Effective Exercise?  With everything mentioned above, yes it is.

  2. Lol! I can't swim! I envy those guys who can swim coz what if there's a beautiful lady drowning, they can rescue her and touch her. T_T But thanks for this article YO MAMA! Yeah you're right that each of us must find an exercise that is enjoyable. I think biking is fun coz it is simple to do(for me), LOW COST, no special area needed, and it is an excellent cardiovascular workout. You can do biking with your friends, cousins, and even your family in various areas like parks, seashores or anywhere you want so I think that this exercise is perfect too. I still love swimming honestly, I hope I can learn it someday. Shame on me IF I can't experience floating in the water!!!!It's like a guy without experiencing circumcision.

  3. I find this article quite funny. I just can't imagine myself swimming! I don't even know how to swim. I'm afraid I'll drown. I practiced a lot, but I guess, swimming is absolutely not for me. I always wanted to learn swimming, but as what as I have observed, I always fail. I'm string my best to learn thjis sport, but I guess my best wasn';t that good enough. lol. I agree to Mr. Amil, biking is fun. So, if I were to choose, I choose biking as my sport. BUt my uncles don't allow me biking too much, they told me that it causes infertility, is this true?

Anyway, you can always have some exercise as cheap as it is. You may not go in the gym, there's a lot of things in our house that can be used during exercise. :)

  4. @Mr. Amil: lol! hahaha. but what about people who don't have bikes? i can relate coz i never had a bike when i was a kid (sad childhood. i know. hahahaha.). heyyy, it's not necessarily cost effective coz you will still need to acquire a bike, but it's still a perfect exercise nonetheless. when it comes to swimming, i really, REALLY lurve basking in the water. pool or sea, it really gets me going. i'm certainly not a pro swimmer though. BUT BOTTOM LINE: I CAN FLOAT! HAHAHA. and it's not too late to learn 'em strokes. even some odd wadding and kicking in the pool could be beneficial. it's all in the technique and interest. if all else fails, enroll in swimming classes. it's never too late to invest in a fun activity which is very beneficial to your health. ;)

  5. @Ms Cerna: yep, what's the point in pushing yourself to do something that you're not interested in? hahaha, it pays to reap rewards while doing something you like. i like your point about finding an activity within your field of interest. what Yo Mama cited is just a suggestion. it's not even realistic to engage in swimming at this point coz for real, we're all busy. unless one is really interested in doing so, that's an exception. still, swimming is not that practical in our setting. find exercises which are attainable at this time. :D

    ReplyDelete
  6. hahaha!! I don't know how to swim too!! xD
but I really wanna learn someday when I'm not too busy already..
It would be nice to learn those swimming strokes and have that wet look after swimming making me a head-turner...
    wahahahahahaha!!!

  7. i am one of those people who can't swim.:)) we have the same sentiments ms. cerna. i tried to swim once, but that was years ago. when we go to the beach or the pool i just play with water. pathetic me.

anyway, ms. cerna, there has been no solid scientific data that could prove that biking can cause infertility. :) so i believe that you should pursue the exercise that you are comfortable and happy with. :)

  8. Thank God it's not all about obese and calories anymore!!!! YEHEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy with this article because I honestly love swimming so with my cousins. I know how to swim but I don't know those different styles, I think I only know the dog style and freestyle. It's true that swimming is very effective in losing weight because all of your muscles will be exercise which is the reason why most of the swimmers have a nice body. To Mr. Amil and Ms. Cerna, it's not too late to learn how to swim.. for me I learned how to swim when I was about to drown and no one was aware that I was drowning, so what I did I tried my best to survive and I swim and swim until I learned it. I don't think it would be applicable for you guys because it might be the other way around that will happen. hahahaha!! You need how to swim guys because what if during the doomsday it will be all about swimming? how can you survive? and there are sharks, piranhas, anacondas, whale sharks, naughty seahorses, sea lions, nemo and other swimming creatures that will chase you hahahaha. You should know at least how to float, I guess you guys need to try swimming in 6 ft or 10 ft. I love biking too, it is so fun, having a bicycle race from jones to srp.. hahaha!! for sure that would be so exhausting. So I can say that we all should have our own exercise in order to lose some weight and not only to lose weight but to stay healthy and young. Remember guys, think about the doomsday , it will be all about swimming to survive!! hahaha!!!

  9. nyahahaha. i don't know how to drive a bike. SHAME ON ME!!! bwahahahaah..

well kidding aside, swimming can really help in staying healthy. After all, it works your whole body, yet it's gentle on joints, reducing the risk of injury. And you don't need to worry about the smell of hot sweaty armpits afterwards (LOL! :))

just like ENCHONG DEE (ehem) who is always in his swimming trunks, who started swimming at age six, is a champion swimmer with 400 plus medals (including a SEA games silver). And WHOOOOH! look at his body!! :))

  10. ahhaha mr. sabay! i just recalled what my older brother did to my younger brother... it was horrible actually, but it must have been a life changing experience for my little brother. My little brother always found it VERY difficult to learn how to swim... so being the horrible eldest child that he is, my older brother actually tossed/pushed away my little brother in the very deep side of the beach (huge waves that time). my little brother was crying so hard, and he was forced to swim for his life. :))) because of that, he now swims very well.

  11. @Julson Amil

wow. i didn't know you were such a perv. just like what our clinical instructor told us earlier.. Boys will always be boys '.' but anyway, i also think swimming is such a fun sport.. Actually, ever since i saw those movies about mermaids and their happy endings, i always wanted to be a half fish too. LOL.. but that was before life removed all my innocence xD anyway, i never learned though.. i'm too scared of leaving the safe haven of the shallow parts of the water :D

    ReplyDelete
  12. hahaha ms. andales, you don't drive a bike, you ride it. :)) so.. about the article! yes, swimming is very useful.. but the thing is, i don't have the time to go out and go swimming as my workout. i do know how to swim, just learned freestyle last summer too. but.. i only see swimming as an activity done during summer or long breaks or outings with friends. if i need to exercise, i guess i'll jog or play badminton.. or even DANCERCISE! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. i am just like you ms. rosales, i do not work very well with water, most especially if i'm surrounded by it. i have attempted to learn a few times but also failed miserably all those attempts. haha. but just like ms. suarez, i do not view swimming as an exercise or a workout, maybe because i have no intention of losing any weight at all! there are also other sports that people can do other than swimming (since others can't swim), like tennis, running, badminton, etc.

  15. @mr amil, you can always use swimming as a sport not just for men's pleasure.
pools and beaches are really tempting for me. actually, i only know freestyle and the term called "dog style" as they say. learning swimming when i was a kid is such a horrible experience because they pushed me out into the sea so that we'll learn. it may sound harsh but indeed it is true.
for those people who do not know how to swim, you better learn it now, because maybe someday there would be incidents that requires for your swimming ability.

    ReplyDelete
  16. OMG, I really love going to different beach resorts, swimming pools, and the like. but the problem is that I don't know how to swim! Well, I know a little but it's like I'm swimming like a dog! LOL! well, yeah. swimming is a great exercise. It's really fun especially when you're with friends, family, and even your better half(char)... For me, swimming is better than exercising in the gym... I really want to learn swimming but I'm really afraid of drowning hahahahaha.

Thanks @yo mama for the great article!
    :}

  17. "I envy those guys who can swim coz what if there's a beautiful lady drowning, they can rescue her and touch her." wow mr. amil. haha. i am shocked. so that's how you view swimming?

    ReplyDelete
  18. guys, let's remember, the article says that "one of the major causes of inconsistency is lack of discipline, commitment, and motivation". so even if you can't swim right NOW, you can always learn. if it's not for you, then find something else to be consistent about. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. @mr gervacio, i have experienced drowning(slight) but i didn't stop swimming, though i have fears in drowning again.
so for those you don't know how to swim and are afraid to swim, push your self to the limit. it is also for your benefit, for survival for instance. but you can also go to gym if you want to.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ahahaha, oh my god Mr.Amil do you just wanna learn swimming just because a beautiful lady needs to be rescued? common, I thought you have a girlfriend? :)

well, Yes, such a shame. I know how to dive but the problem is, I dont know how how to be back on the surface after diving. :P kidding. I really dont know how to swim, but I enjoy several activities like biking, i even try my best to have jogging atleast once a week. but thinking of brisk walking, I also do that, realizing our room is on the 3rd floor, then we have our building near the edge of the campus, Isnt that exercise? :))

    ReplyDelete
  21. oh my god Ms.Andales, did you just mention my lovable, hunk, handsome and all time champion swimmer slash crush Enchong Dee? oh yes, he does swim, no wonder he's got GREAT BODY. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. @ ms. shienna: I also experienced slight drowning before, but that didn't push me to avoid swimming. I'm really motivated to learn swimming so if I have time, I'll really grab the opportunity to learn... I know that it's beneficial :}

Right now, I still don't have plans to go to the gym to exercise so when we talk about exercise, I'll choose swimming than going to the gym.
    :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Mr. Amil: unlike you, i know how to swim but the sad part here is i don't know how to ride a bike. :) so i would prefer swimming than biking.i was also shocked of your motive on trying to learn swimming. i never thought of someone would value it as a chance to flirt than a means to enjoy and exercise.

i've noticed that not all of us, or majority of us here doesn't know how to swim. i can say that swimming is very fun especially when you go deep the ocean. it doesn't only help you burn your fats but at the same time it eases your stress due to the nice scenery of corals under the sea. the sad part of it is that, we are now losing our coral reefs because of the abusive people out there. you know who it is.

@Ms. Buencaloloy: although i hate Enchong Dee that much, i agree that he has a great body and it's no wonder because he is a good swimmer. with just that, we can already justify that swimming indeed is a very good exercise in keeping and maintaining a healthy and well-shaped body.

    ReplyDelete
  24. MR. SABAY: are you sure that the end of the world will be because of floods? how sure are you?! hahahha.

yeah ms. suarez, we can only find time to swim or for us who are noobs- learn how to swim, during the summer or long vacations. for me the easiest way is to jog around your subdivision or around the city to lose weight and be healthy. choose what's easiest and most practical for you so that your life is easier.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hahaha. I am a trying hard swimmer. I am even thinking of enrolling in a swimming class, even for just a week or two. I want to swiiiiiiiimmmm. I don't care if I'm not good at it.
@Sir Lim, can I join the swimming team next school year? Hehe. Just kidding sir. I know I am not qualified. Just trying. :D

Well, talking about the article, I think it is effective. Because when you swim, you are exercising. How I love to go swimming everyday to relieve my stress and at the same time, to exercise, if only swimming pools are accessible anywhere. Ahhhhhh, em so pathetic. A trying hard little girl. Sorry for that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Swimming!! Yay!! I think swimming is a good exercise. You should do exercises that you enjoy rather that forcing yourself as the article says. Swimming also helps increase you stamina and all those other stuff. I'm not that good at swimming but I know freestyle and you know, just floating there. Haha. I usually go swimming for fun like in outings with family and friends but I think it will be a very good idea to start swimming as a regular thing. I'm also fond of biking and jogging but I just don't have time to do it anymore. So if I want to sweat, I just play Dance Central in the Xbox. ahaha. So my point is, we should always pair a healthy diet with exercise. And that exercise should be something you enjoy so that you will have the will to keep doing it :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. MR. SABAY: I agree with Ms. Rosales' question. I quote "are you sure that the end of the world will be because of floods? how sure are you?!" :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. yes! finally something i'm good at!(haha I have the same reaction as Mr. Sabay...finally a brand new topic) Bragging aside..even though i admit have a big build..but i do swim well. I learned how to swim when i was like 3-5 yrs. old..because my tito and titas, even my grandparents, always brought me to the sea near our provincial house.

i pity people who don't know how to swim...you guys should learn!! its fun and its a great way to lose weight without sweating..but you do sweat but it doesn't show, unless your sweat has coloring on it! (haha)

@ Mr. Amil's comment! LoL! like Ms. Carnicer's reaction or comment..i never knew Mr. Amil that you were perverted inside..but really, really shy on the outside..Mind you, learning how to swim isn't and shouldn't be based on that thought..your sooo bad.. :))

@ Ms Carnicer: Yep! we kinds do have those memoirs or imaginations as you call it when we were still children right? I remember..i used to teach my younger siblings to swim..and by the end of the day..we would like tell each other to like.."let's swim like mermaids!" haha old times..i never knew until i went to a real swimming class that that mermaid way of swimming or moving of your legs was called a dolphin kick! :)

@ Ms. Remeticado! its never a hindrance that you don't know how to swim when you want to join the swim team..you could always start from there..Take ms. Salera as an example, at first she couldn't finish swimming at least half of 25 meters. (the swimming pool @CCSC is 50 m. in total)...when it was time for the real competition...she could already finish..the whole lap (50 m)..see! its always a good experience to start experiencing something new!:)i invite you to try it! also, you non-swimmers too! its fun! although you might darker and even get sunburn but believe me, its worth it!

Advise for non-swimmers!: read my comment for Ms. Remeticado..:) hope it will change your mind :)

@ yo' Mama: thanks for another article :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. @ ms. Taborada: yup me too! If I have time to spare I just play our dance pad at home..

good thing I know how to swim and to ride a bike :) unfortunate for those who only know one or non at all :) i invite you guys to try it! you will miss half of your life if you never learn how to :)

talking about Enchong dee and a swimmer's body...you know i noticed something..it looks good on guys but it really, really,(my opinion only) hideous on a girl's body.. you notice that s swimmer's body is slightly big when it comes to the upper part of the body, especially the shoulders..its soo broad..i don't like it :(

that's' why when i watch swimming competitions..especially the Olympics, i can't tell a girl from a boy (when they are already wearing their gear: the goggles, swimming cap and sometimes a nose clip) except when they are called using their names...so that's one disadvantage when it comes to swimming for girls :) just sharing my thoughts :)))

but don't let this disadvantage hinder you from trying and learning how to swim :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Swimming is indeed enjoyable if your with friends, cousins and family. It's actually a good exercise, no doubt about it.

Reminiscing about my experience of swimming..those days were unforgettable for me.

Speaking of experience, I know how to do some free style but mind you I'm not a good swimmer. What saddened me most is that I can't float in the water..honestly..it is a bit shameful :C
Even though I had my swimming practice for days (2 days in a week)which lasted for a month, I cant even reach 50 meters and I tend to go to the sides for support.
But somehow I was able to observe some changes on my body. I shed off some weight and I don't easily get tired.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Ms. Carnicer - with your comment I can say that you had too much of the fairytales. hahahaha. The Little Mermaid also fascinated me. I really wanted to go underwater and explore the world there. It makes me curious on what happens with the creatures in the sea. But the thing is, I get scared of swimming, even though I know how to swim. I just don't trust myself when it comes to interacting with water. Lucky for me though that I know how to swim, compared to others.

@Mr. Amil - I find your comment funny knowing that you already have a girlfriend. No offense. I can say that you are really a man. hahaha. Happy to know your "chickboy" side.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ ms. rosales, nice point! HAHA how can a person be so sure that the end of the world will be through floods? :) but anyway, i also agree to your point regarding infertility in riding a bike, i wasn't able to find solid proofs as well, but unfortunately, i really don't know how to ride a bike just like how much i suck at swimming.. [pathetic] haha

@ms. suarez: good thing, your younger brother took that incident to the positive side, i mean, he wasn't traumatized by that event, anyway my father also did that to my elder brother, and he also swims very well now... :) unlike me who's still afraid of drowning... ^^

    ReplyDelete
  33. @ Ms. Bispo

I just want to correct about what you've posted earlier.

I wasn't able to finish the 50 meters lap. BUT i ALMOST as in ALMOST got there. :C

  34. :D Awwww..SWIMMING!!! My parents always tell me that it's the best exercise for our muscles and bones that would help promote growth..but sadly, an epic happened when I was still at my play age. I went ot slide, SHOUT, and...splashhhh. So wonderful right? It was my first drowning lesson! HAHA XD And because of that I am who I am right now (very cute). Yet, it feels soo good , yes so right to know that it's not only I who is afraid of the deep water!

But still I'm currently hoping and ambitioning that one day would come that I could also drip with my friends during outings and not just the one whose left in the cottage. :(
So, to mr.amil, ms.traces, ms.cerna, ms.rosales and those frustrated swimmers out there..never ever give up! I can relate. Maybe, someday we could be classmates not just in school but in pool :))))

  35. Hahaha. . . After years of being sad because I'm not a good swimmer I'm actually happy now because I at least know how to float. . :D i honestly don't really like swimming because I always get cramps -_-" but yes, I admit that swimming is a very good exercise. . The people I know who love swimming are I great shape. . Hahaha~~how I wish I was a great swimmer. . X)

I agree with Andre that we have to learn how to swim. . With all the floods happening here in the Philippines, it would be beneficial for us to know how to swim. This is so that we would be able to save ourselves and our loved ones from drowning. . . ^^

Not only will swimming give you a healthy and great body.. It will also help you improve in singing.. It has something to do with being able to hold in more air or something like that. . X) credits to my dad and uncle who supplied me with this knowledge. . X)

If you don't like to swim. . There are other ways to exercise. For example, dancing or jogging. So that we would be able to stay committed to our exercise, we must choose something that would make us have fun. :D something that you can enjoy alone and also with friends ^^

    ReplyDelete
  36. mmHmmm I haven't touch the breeze of the sea waves since then even though our house is just directly at the front beach...gOd i miss swimming but I was having a trauma back then from my last swim coz i encountered something in the sea,,,uhm a sea creature something which caused burn and itch all over my body..It was like forming a rosary and I interrupted it's floating mechanism and that's I was like being chased by a giant ogre when I felt that and rushed tO our hOuse immediately..I washed my body w/ soap and bathe mahself w/ lots of alcohol and still wasn't gone and that's why I stopped having an affair w/ the sea...But yOu know guyz swimming is a very healthy way of exercise and for me I guess I'll just sticK w/ the pool yet rather than swishing under the sea....ThaannKkks again Yo.MaMa :]

  37. WAAAAH! just reading this article reminds me of someone whom I, Ms. Buencaloloy and Ms. Andales always daydream. Enchong Dee. he is not only handsome but at the same time a very good athlete - a swimmer. honestly speaking, i am very engrossed with this guy that i've always dream to be trained by him,.. :)coz i am not a good swimmer. i know i am out of topic now guys, but i agree with all of you that swimming is one of the best exercise that a person can do to maintain healthy body. it is not only an exercise but at the same time can be a source of enjoyment. so guys, let us not lose hope on learning this very interesting activity.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Mr. amil and Ms. Tan : good for you, you know how to bike but me I don't :( I never attempt. too afraid of getting bruises.

That's a NO to Swimming and Biking! but,I still do have other fun activities that I think is also a very cheap and effective way of burning fats. Just what ms.suarez mentioned : "DANCERCISE"!! I LURV to dance :))
I usually do FREESTYLE dancing in my room but during weekends, I do belly dancing with the help of instructional vids. I am planning to level up and try ZUMBA too. It was fun and very easy to follow!

By the way, good to know Ms. Bispo you have built-in skills in swimming and biking, I hope you continue utilizing it. If you feel like it's not working for you..try DANCERCISE too! :D

    ReplyDelete
  39. good for you ms. li, at least you know how to float, i really don't, i'm not confident and knowing the fact that i have an ear infection, i'm afraid that water will get in my ear and make the situation worse and i'd have to go through all the pain once again,

anyway, i agree to your point, anybody can still be loyal and have discipline with their exercises despite the incapability of swimming (exagg? HAHA) anyway, there are a lot of other exercises a person can do besides swimming but i think the limitations of common people nowadays is the time or free time when they can do their exercises rather than what exercise should they do or are they capable of doing... ^^

    ReplyDelete
  40. ooohhhh seems like majority hear are frustrated swimmers neh? hehehe. I was almost..take note "almost" like you guys. You see I didn't know how to swim until high school. Whenever we go to swim, I really used to envy those people who can do it you know! So I thought "If they can do it...I also can!". Making my self float....plus a couple of hand and feet movements= swimming (for me) lol!!

Swimming is really good for the body. Like Ms. Andales and Ms. Buencaloloy, one ideal example is Enchong Dee. He is swimmer that's why he has such a great body! :))

To others who doesn't like swimming, you can do badminton games! Aside from it also burns calories, it is also fun to do! You can do it with your friends or family in front of your house or any open area.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ms. Carnicer: I think that Mr. Amil is not yet a pervert...(hahaha)...I think that he is just a man who dreams of rescuing a maiden from drowning and i also think that it's just natural for men to sometimes think that way..:D

but, too much of something is bad..hahahha
    (making sense? XD)

and thanks yo mama for this article.:)

  42. Ms. marturillas: hahahha... me too! im also an ALMOST SWIMMER! hahahaha....i really like swimming and i'm doing some things to learn how to swim...hahahha...

  43. Basing from my own experiences in swimming, i can truly say that swimming is really if not the best, one of the best physical exercises one can do in his/her lifetime. i agree with this because as said in the article when one swims one uses most of his/her major muscles, because otherwise if YOU DONT..then YOU WILL DROWN..hehe but anyway going back to swimming, my answer is yes. Swimming can help one loose weight and help one be physically fit and healthy.

  44. to those who are planning to learn swimming, i have read this tips, hope these can help you.

    swimming tips:
1.DO NOT enter the water if you have diarrhea. (People can spread germs in the water even without having an "accident.")

2.DO NOT swallow the water! (Remember: it's everybody's bath water and chlorine does not kill all germs.)

3.Wash your hands and bottom thoroughly with soap and water after a bowel movement or changing diapers. (Germs on hands end up everywhere, including the water.)
4.Stretch out in the water and make as long a streamlined shape as you can.
5.Use breathing to help you relax and bring rhythm and balance to the stroke
6.Start and finish each session with a smile on your face.:)

    ReplyDelete
  45. GUESS WE MISSED HALF OF OUR LIVES HAHAHA! share the same feeling you guys have there. To tell you, im afraid of floating either in water or air. HAHAHA.

ANYWAY, its true that swimming is good for your body. It RELEASES STRESS, enhances your breathing pattern, way your heart works and YOUR FIGURE, body weight i mean (so i prefer running and singing as an alternative from swimming) and yeah, i dream to swim the whole english channel its impossible since i dunno how but who knows? HAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  46. for those people who knew how to swim well, I REALLY ENVY YOU GUYS! tsk! T.T too sad for me, i've tried swimming for a countless times but i guess it wasn't really meant for me. since i was drowned in a pool 7 years ago and had a near death experience, i've already gained a phobia in swimming. haha. that's why, everytime we go to a beach resort, i always end up swimming in the KIDDIE POOL! hahaha. so pathetic! :))

but i guess, that's life. we have our own strength and weaknesses. haha. but maybe i'll try another activity aside from swimming. just like mr. amil suggested, biking is one of the best way to exercise. biking is just similar to swimming, for me, it doesn't only help you burn calories and enhances your cardiovascular strength but it could also relaxes and relieves you from stress. :)

  47. I don't know how to swim myself but I'm surrounded by great swimmers. =)) (Since my mom's a marine biology student, I guess that's something they're required to know.)

But even if I don't know how to swim (It's sad :(( HAHAHA) I agree and I KNOW that it's a great way to exercise! (especially if you really love the refreshing feel of the water and you hate the sticky feeling of sweat)

Just to emphasize, it's true that one must never over exert oneself in whatever you're doing. Always rest between laps and do warm-ups before letting your muscles do the work :)

LASTY, it's always more fun to swim with friends!! ;)

  48. I like water, so I like pools, but I don't like swimming. I like splashing, having fun, but not swimming. So I guess I still have to find the right enjoyable fun exercise for me. I'm not sure if I know how to swim, I don't know what's swimming really, but I know how to make my body float though (esp. in a swimming pool), and that's what I always do (lazy).I like going on a boat ride too, and someday I want to ride in a submarine. Yess, submarines..:)) and have my wedding there, christening of my first child too. And because I love bodies of water, I want to give my baby a pet dolphin on his/her 7th birthday and let him/her take swimming lessons. Why? because this article says that it's an effective exercise, thanks yo'mama! :D

  49. Ewww, Ms. Remeticado the "TH girL" ahahahah.
    peace!

Ms. Ocon, i'd like you to know that swimming is a WHOLE BODY exercise as evidenced by MY SO PAINFUL BODY d/t Spasms after plunging and swimming in the pool. But since you have phobia with that (I don't know the specific name), you can still make a swimming exercise in the 4ft pool... so you won't miss half of your life. :)

BIKING IS GOOD too but I don't have a bike :( But i'm a GOOd CYCLIST! ahahha... teehee!

  50. ahahha.. as always! You're crazy Ms. Osias!
Having an underwater marriage is cool and splashy!

Maybe I too should be wedded there because I'M DROWNED WITH LOVE of my husband to be!
So let's build a church in the YELLOW submarine!..
    :D

  51. DID YOU KNOW THAT...

  52. Oh gawd, I really envy swimmers. They have such great bods! And they have better endurance because of how they work and pracitce. Imagine working all of those muscles when just simply doing strokes and kicking movements. Swimmers have toned bodies, greater endurance, greater and better muscles. But I think we can all acquire that even if we just do alternate exercises and activities like BIKING as what mr. amil pointed out. Guys, unnoticeable but it may seem but simple activities done well and properly can produce better tone and lesser weight. WALK. RUN. JOG. JUMP. SWIM. BIKE. PLAY BALL! A lot, and by that I mean A LOT. All you need is the right amount of discipline, determination, and a whole lot of enjoyment. :)))))

  54. So, swimming's the new talk of the town.. :D haha.. When my friends plan to have a get together, i usually suggest to have it in a beach. I do love swimming but i guess swimming doesn't love me. Sadding i know.. haha

Nyways, i agree to @yo'mama that it's a good exercise though for those who knew how to only. It's never applicable for those who can't swim. haha. Not just ENCHONG DEE who's into swimming but as well as the famous hot and sexy J'LO too. :D

  55. Just a thought... does the amount of time you can stay underwater determine how healthy you are? Like when you can stay longer, does that mean that your respiratory system (or lungs) are stronger? :)

  56. Seriosuly, I really want to learn swimming but I don't have the will power to learn it, or join any summer activities on swimming. It is really an enjoyable exercise, coz it just don't help you control your breathing but also helps you to be fit..

    @Yo mama thanks so much!

  57. And additional to that, to what Mr. Nover has said it also tests our endurance. Discipline is really the key to learn this sport and exercise at the same time:)

And at the end it will be worth it:)

  58. Thanks by the way to Yo'Mama because it really enlighten me in some facts about swimming:)

Swimming really is hard to learn but if you are motivated to do so then you will learn it fast and @Mr Arizobal, swimming really is a test for endurance but not only that it is also a test for our strength because in swimming you need to learn a lot of styles and steps and it involves much much of our metabolism and Ms Intong is right discipline is also a key factor but of course it needs motivation and willingness to do the sports so that you can learn swimming faster and easier and not only that you can also have fun and enjoy :)
