Common Reasons for Obesity

Why Am I Fat?
(Reasons of Obesity worth Considering)

Fat is a politically-incorrect adjective. That is what feminist groups keep on saying in lieu with fats as the subject. Yes, it is true that being sexy and beautiful is largely based on every person’s preferences. However, one cannot also ignore the statistics of fat people having health complications like diabetes and hypertension. If you feel insecure about your obesity, it is best to address it with the right ways. Before beginning an exercise or diet program, you may want to examine yourself with the reasons why you are overweight. Finding out the root causes of obesity will help you create effective plans for weight loss in a healthy way.

Bad Fat Genes
Look around you. Examine your parents’ and other family members’ bodies. Are most of them fat? Yes, some people have genes that make them fat. Your hormones or hypothalamus may not be working normally thus producing hormones that invites you to eat more than the regular person. Your family may also have other congenital disease linked to being overweight. It doesn’t mean though that genes should rule your life. See a doctor and let him examine which aspect of your body needs to be corrected.

Lack of Aerobic Activities
If you are a workaholic and are content with sitting in your office swivel chair finishing a task for several hours, then you are a candidate of obesity. Sedentary lifestyle is one of the top reasons which often lead to obesity. Though you are mentally-stressed, your body is not doing any physical exercises that burn fat. Remember, oxygen burn body fats. Your regular breathing is not enough, you need to stretch, take a walk, dance or swim to burn accumulated calories. These days, some offices have mini gyms and workers are allowed to take a break in between shifts to exercise. Take advantage of these periods to sweat it all out. Instead of drinking coffee or eating your favorite snacks, try simple stretching routines with your colleagues.

Depression, Stress and Sleep Deprivation
These are activities that bring negative energy to our system. It is a misconception that stressed and tired people automatically will grow thin. Some reacted to stress and depression negatively. Some love to eat comfort foods like chocolates and sweets when depressed. You should be aware of this behavior. Studies have also shown that sleep deprivation contributes to being overweight. It is in sleeping that our bodies perform tremendous oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange. Without sleep, our body cannot metabolize well.

Other Clinical Diseases
Yes, kidney and cardiovascular problems and thyroid disorders are health problems that should be monitored. Our kidneys help in the metabolism of fats. A dysfunctional kidney will make some people look bloated. A hormonal imbalance in the thyroid glands or a liver dysfunction may also be related to obesity.

Food Choice
Most people held this factor as a culprit of their obesity. We get tempted easily with processed and express foods. We made our busy lifestyles as an excuse not cook fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables. Examine the food you prepare in the table. Are they healthy? Do they contain the right carbohydrates and essential fats that can be metabolized easily? These questions are important to keep your health and your family’s health intact.

Obesity is another problem among people all over the world. Being, obese is really depressing and pressuring (as what I have observed from the reality show, The Biggest Loser). They tend to develop insecurity within them. Especially, when you really want that dress from the mall, but you can't just achieve the plessure just because you are "over-sized".

But, being obese is not just about the physical insecurities but also about the greater risks of ending your life soon :) why? Most obese people have Hypertension and Diabetes, which will eventually develop into a more serious problem like, cardiovascular ailments.

But I also believe that in any problem, there is always a solution. You just need to dig it deep down. Start working it out and avoid the things that will worsen the situation. :))

  2. @Ms. Gabiana: That's true, I could totally relate. I would like to call myself 'pleasingly plump' but it wouldn't mask the situation anyway. Haha, I'm about to strike two birds here...as stated during my past comments I have a history of diabetes AND hypertension. To make it worse, I'm slightly hypersthenic (big frame, chubby). Not necessarily obese but if my abusive nature towards food and lack of exercise continues, we all know where I'm headed. I'm not that conscious about what I eat too - to be honest, I eat almost everything. I wasn't born a picky eater, and my favorites are usually addictive, fattening or incredibly bad for the health. I have a very sedentary lifestyle too. I'm not a fan of exercise. And I'm one of those people who use food as a coping mechanism, especially to keep me awake. Ughh! If that isn't too much bad luck for me. :(

  3. wow. . i was staring at the picture at the right side of the article 'til i got the idea. hahaha. so they're waiting for the store to open? it's kinda funny. Just like what ms. gabiana stated in her comment, obese/fat people do certainly develop insecurity (i also watch The Biggest Loser). But it is up to you if you choose to face your insecurities or not. It is up to you if you would like to change your lifestyle.

noticing the picture, these 2 girls are waiting for the store to open. Seems like they don't have lots of things to do right? It wouldn't hurt to run a few rounds around the store while waiting. hahaha. So i thought of a few things one should consider if they decide to lose weight. one, do EAT healthy (this has been said repeatedly since the past articles), weigh yourself every now and then (this will make you aware of yourself), stop drinking calories!, read about articles about weight loss! (like this one), and what i find most important is, discipline yourself! think long term and find a reason/s for doing it.

you might think, "i don't have the time!", but if you really think about it, you do. just not the right attitude. :)

I noticed one reason that caught my attention, and its SLEEP DEPRIVATION! listen to your body when it tells you to get some rest. Don't over stress yourself.

thanks again for the new article. wouldn't want myself to develop severe health conditions. Again, obesity=hypertension/diabetes=may get more complicated than that. :D

ps. being aware of the reasons why you are gaining weight more than the others is the first step.

pss. im on a diet. :P

  4. uhhhh. my previous comment was kinda long.. sorry about that.

@R.C Laguda: that's really sad to know. but its not too late to have a change of heart! Lets change OUR lifestyle and go on a diet together! woooooo! say no to health-conditions-because-of-obesity!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. hi guys!
to Ms. Laguda: i have read your comment and it seems that we are on the same boat. i have this tendency also toeat just to keep me awake especially when i'm stressing myself on studying lessons. but you know what? i have discovered a new strategy in diverting myself to foods. maybe you could try this one out and see if it applies for you too. try writing essays or diaries, listening to music when you get sleepy.

i agree to Ms. Gabiana also that being obese is depressing. i have never been thin all my life and i have experienced a lot of humiliation and discrimination of being fat during my elementary years and it is really depressing. if it is that severe for me that time, how would it be on those obese people out there? underestimating them or humiliating them is not the solution to their problem because it will stressed them out even more. if some people believe that insulting them is the best way to make them be aware then for it is not because frankly speaking it adds more to the burden they are experiencing. sometimes a person let out his/her emotions on food resulting to eating a lot. i think ENCOURAGEMENT is the best word to help them. encourage them to express, to eat responsibly and to exercise daily.

  6. @Ms. Laguda

I think these articles are signs that we should lose weight. We should continue our plans of exercising if we have time. Haha. :D

  7. I agree with ms. Suarez, sleep deprivation really is one of the factors that contributes to gaining weight. Like me, when I was still in high school, I always sleep very late and sometimes skip sleeping ,because of this,I gained weight! And ,also, not sleeping or sleeping late makes us look bad for it gives us eyebags , dark circles around our eyes and all! So, I should say that we should take enough sleep every night to keep our body healthy and avoid gaining weight....^_^

  9. Yes, let's face the fact that nowadays... there are a lot of people you are overweight and obese... and I'm one of those people :P and the reasons why I'm overweight is in this article:
    *Lack of Aerobic Activities
    *Depression, Stress and Sleep Deprivation
    and
    *Food Choice(sometimes) :P

Like what @apple gabiana posted, I developed lots of insecurities within me. :/

just like @r.c laguda some of my favorite foods are also addictive, fattening, and obviously bad for my health.

yes, I admit when people tell me to lose some weight I immediately answer: "I don't have time!"
and "It'll just make me tired which makes me eat more food!!!"

but honestly, I just don't have the spirit to do so YET as in YET! So, don't you dare judge me. HAHAHAHAHA

I know someday someone will throw a really big stone in my head which makes me realize that I should to the right thing... maybe when I graduate? HAHAHAHAHA :P

I know I'm healthy in my own perspective... As long as I don't have those life-threatening diseases... I'm happy with my life :D

  11. @Danielle Ann Suarez: Haha, easy to say but hard to follow. Good for you that you've actually resolved to do yourself a favor and go on a diet. As for me, I've tried a gazillion times to actually skimp on the fatty foods and eat healthy but failed.

@thisis-kathlyn tan: Indeed misery loves company...I'm just happy that someone knows what I'm going through. Hahaha, well I'd better try that out. Thanks. :)

  12. @Junice Iane Casals: True that. :))

Sometime last year, I heard from my parents that french fries kill more people than sharks. For short, the many ailments brought about by fried, processed, fatty, starchy food could complicate our body systems and KILL us (even more than eventful factors like shark kills or accidents). Isn't this a wake up call? We should probably DO SOMETHING by now. I'm not saying that we should cut on McDonald's for the rest of our lives, but MODERATION is always the key. (this is actually an note to self. hahaha.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. *a note to self i mean. sorry for the typo! :)

  14. I can't really relate to stuff like this seeing as I am underweight -.-" but as Ms. Gabiana has stated, depression and insecurities usually come together with obesity. But I personally think that it all depends on how a person perceives it. I know some people who are obese yet they aren't insecure of themselves.

Some people think that there is nothing they can do about their obesity, but as they say, "when there's a will, there's a way";)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey Guys!! I just don’t get it.I usually eat much when depresson and stress strikes me but still there are no changes in my thin body.I wanted to be more like a chubby girl but I guess it will not happen to me.

Almost of the reasons that the article stated except for the bad fat genes affects me but instead of gaining weight and being obese ,it turns that nothing happens to my body. Therefore not all of these factors can contribute to obesity. It just depends on how our body reacts with our activities.

  17. Me too I cannot relate with those chubby and obese people because like Ms. Concepcion and Ms. Taborada, even though I eat a lot I really do not gain weight even when I'm in stress. Maybe its because my parents used to be like my size before. I know people who are chubby and obese have some insecurities within them but if they really want to lose weight, they should have a proper diet by eating healthy foods, fruits, vegetables and not having a sedentary lifestyle. Have fun while excercising. For me, it would be best if you exercise together with your family or friends so that you will be encourage more in losing weight instead of being pressured to lose weight by yourself. Lucky for me I'm not obese, hahaha but I really want to be chubby.

    ReplyDelete
  18. uhmmm, let me think. first i wanna be frank that i really can't relate on losing weight. hahaha. seriously, everyone is aware of what obesity is, but not all of us know it's possible cause and things that makes a person obese. by reading the article i truly agree that having a huge body is hereditary. based on our family, no matter how many times we eat in a day we really won't gain too much. and that is one thing that i don't know if should i thank about. hehehe. anyways, obesity is still a matter of choice. you could choose to loose weight, do exercise, diet programs and be conscious on the food you eat. or stay horizontally inclined, eat and eat and eat, then establish those diseases. in the end it is in ones hand that life turns. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ms. Gabiana: You are right that in any problem there is always a solution.

People out there, never hesitate to make a MOVE OR ACTION. If ever you feel there's a need then DO IT. Do some EXERCISE, eat HEALTHY foods and DON'T EVER WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!

Reality tells us that it is our own decision whether to live a better life or not.

the things I mentioned should also serve as a reminder to everyone and also to MYSELF..:D

  21. @R.C laguda: you're right. easy to say but sooo hard to do. but i believe that we are truly capable of achieving our desired weight. you are you're own baricade. it's not like someone's tying you to a chain and making you gobble down food right? you can always say no even though its sooo gooood to say yesss. They say "a girl's diet always starts tomorrow". But if you are really serious about losing weight, you could actually do it. maybe you're just not into it yet. :) no rush.

  22. Mr. Andromedes, ms. Apollinar,ms. Taborada and ms. Conception…GREAT FOR YOU!!! You can eat what you want and not get fat of shall I say it “overweight”. Some people are just born lucky. Unlike me, ms.Tan, and ms. Laguda from what they’ve shared… I have concluded that I’m not alone. Hey being chubby is the new trend… we’re all over the place…. hahahaha:D. Just kidding. My point is it’s better if you don’t have to worry about gaining weight at all. But for unlucky people, that LOVES to eat, especially the “forbidden stuff”. Then well still eat but healthily…
My advice to people who are just too conscious of their weight, as long as you’re not obese then be COMFORTABLE with your own skin. A little fat here and there won’t hurt… Actually its considered SEXY!

    ReplyDelete
  23. @apolinar: "but not all of us know it's possible cause and things that makes a person obese." Thank God for the people who make this kind of articles.

i am truly jealous of the people who do not gain weight. But still, being underweight has its own disadvantages. :)

  25. I can relate to you Ms. Laguda and Ms. Bispo...one thing I can say is that I'm fat, that is why I developed some insecurities in myself. Also, I have low self-esteem. My family is pressuring me to go on a diet but I wonder why it is hard for me to do so! >.< but then I realized that its time for me to seriously engage myself on a diet...hehehe.Sometimes I envy those people who eat a lot but doesn't gain any weight...makes me wonder why there are people like that! lol!

to YoMama, your articles enlightened and gave me some tips to lose weight...thank you for that :D

To Ms. Gabiana, even I was motivated by that show. Seeing them working work hard...it opened my eyes that keeping myself in this state won't help me develop :D

    ReplyDelete
  26. Whatever fad diet books tell you, the single most important factor affecting weight gain is the ratio of calories consumed to calories burned. Eat more than you work off, and you'll gain weight.

Those people who seem to eat and eat and eat, but never gain weight. Why do some people pack on pounds, while others subject themselves to rigorous diets and workout regimens only to struggle with stubborn belly fat?

The answer has a lot to do with that mystery of mysteries, the metabolism, which like everything is influenced both by one's genetics and one's environment. The environment, in this case, includes more than just nutrition and exercise; it includes sleep habits, stress and chemical exposures.(Oh, and while this may sound like an article ripped from a women's health magazine, don't be fooled: You won't find miracle pills or quick-fix workouts as solutions to these causes of weight-gain. As with eating well and getting enough exercise, there is neither a great mystery, nor an easy solution to finding good health.)

Eat well, of course - and chill out. We can't control every form of stress -- remember the 40-hour work week? Turns out, that was good for us -- we can reduce our stress levels.

Read a book. Take the afternoon to cook a (healthy, low-fat) family meal. Work in the garden. Take a walk. Watch the birds. Exercise. Get outside and play with the kids. ... Do whatever you do to get perspective. It may help you slim down, too. :))

    ReplyDelete
  27. my comment is kinda long.. :)))

by just looking at the picture, i wonder how people who have that kind of body feels when they are discriminated. i know it hurts but, does it serves them as a challenge? or they just loss hope? i'm confused!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. whoa! I can't believe that sleep deprivation is one of the causes of obesity! just like ms. carcallas and ms. tan, i often deprive myself from sleeping due to studying our lessons and making our assignments too. well, no wonder that my body seems getting bigger. ugh! :(

but anyway, to those who are worried about this problem (which seems that almost everybody can relate), all we've got to do is to have everything that is really a necessity in our body. we must always remember that there should be a MODERATION in doing such things like eating foods rich in calories and stressing yourself out. think on the bright side! :)

meanwhile, for those who can't relate on this problem like ms. concepcion, ms.apolinar, ms. taborada and mr. sabay, good for you! it doesn't matter that you're thin as long as you eat the right and healthy foods needed in your body.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ms. Suarez: count me in :D...I envy them also(people who don't gain weight).

But then being underweight is a no no good sign because they are also at risk for infection and disease, hair loss, lower immune system, osteoporosis and worst heart failure.

    ReplyDelete
  30. okay, why am I fat? all the reasons hit me and its all my fault!( and my family too hahaha!) sad but true, im close enough to obesity since im very short and sooo wide. but it dint really cross my mind to be insecure like you guys do cause it came to a point that i dont care about losing weight cause i think its what God wants me to be.

but health wise, if youre obese, its necessary to lose weight to prevent diseases, if youre not then dont! just live a healthier life thats all.

anyway @YoMama! ever since i read your articles it encourages me so bad to lose weight for my own good. now im starting to work so hard to lose weight. cant wait to tell the progress! hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yo' Mama: thank you for this article. through this, i'm now more aware about my body and learned how to adjust myself to a healthier way against obesity. i'm looking forward for your next articles that would surely help us in living our everyday lives.

  32. Just like what @Ms. Tan said, I am also teased by my relatives because of my weight. They call me 'porky' or 'piggy'. I find it depressing at times because it is humiliating. After reading this article and the comments, I realized that I should take action regarding my weight, but I won't be that hardworking in losing weight.

Honestly, if my relatives don't tease me, I just don't care with my weight. I'm happy with what I am. I guess I'll just be losing weight for the sake of my health. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. so, thanks to the author...again and again..

i am sooo totaly jealous of Taborada, Suarez, and Conception...i would love to have a body like that! that even thought i eat a lots..i still wouldnt get fat..soo Tan, Casals and Laguda..good luck to us....hahahahah:p

so, i admit..im obese..but according to the article..my genetics can contribute to that factor..all my family members at my father's side are all "gifted" haha in terms of body size..so i guess that's what made me fat..haha but i know that that's not only the reason..but still..i could use it as a reason...

so good luck to me..i just hope i don't get diabetes and hypertension...

note to self: LOSE WEIGHT baby doll :D

@Yo'Mama :keep up the good work!

  35. cant WAIT to lose WEIGHT guys? START NOW!
Not by judging the 2 awesome dudes on the picture, cause they have their own issues, i kinda relate why they look that way but yeah, let's fight this obesity thing! who's with me? haha!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don’t want to repeat what everybody is already saying about staying healthy. Yes, it’s good to have healthy body, not overweight nor underweight. But if I was obese, and I find eating as living my life to the fullest, I really don’t mind dying. Hahahaha I have friends who are obese, but they don’t mind, they’re happy. But to people who wants to have a sexy body, but is not doing anything about their weight, then I believe you really have a problem because your desires are not congruent to your actions. Know what you want and don’t regret. Being thin doesn’t mean being happy at all if you deprive yourself from doing what you really want, eating. I’m not against what everybody is saying here, but I just think that the problem of obese people is not their weight and being unhealthy, it’s how the society looks at them.

@JasafeTaborada;QuenieConcepcion;AndromedesSabay;DanicaApolnar; I’m not obese, but I guess I can relate to what obese people feel though
@SeirgsGervacio; “I know I’m healthy in my own perspective… I’m happy with my life” THISSSS!
@YoMama; Keep the articles coming, feed my brain. Hahaha and thank you for that picture, it made my day. I was doing the same thing this morning. Hahahaha

  37. Overweight and obese people are frequently stereotyped as emotionally impaired, socially handicapped, and as possessing negative personality traits, in short they are discriminated. Honestly, I pity those obese people for people look unto them like they are outcasts.

Like Ms. Ocon, Ms. Tan and Ms. Carcallas I also deprive myself from sleep due mostly to studying, which is quite alarming while I was reading the article. I'm also guilty regarding food choices, because Iam most of the time a picky eater. I eat foods that are mostly appealing to the eyes(like a child).I hope I can have the spirit to force myself to exercise.
Seriously, I envy Ms. Concepcion, Ms. Taborada, Ms. Apolinar and Mr. Sabay. I wish Iam like you:))

    ReplyDelete
  38. Seriously, while reading the article I quickly looked at the mirror, and I laughed because I thought I could find myself very fat but I found myself stressed out.:))

I must really try my best to control my stress to never lead to obesity:)

  41. whoa, sleep deprivation's one of the factors to obesity? kinda' freakin' out here!!! 'cause ah i'm an internet addict (mostly surfin' facebook and naruto streaming), and i'm using most of my time surfing during sem break and christmas vacation... but i didn't lose nor gain weight.! how's that??

haha maybe it's my genetic factor 'cause there's no obese member of our family. but i do consider myself to have a tendency to acquire this disease. just like Ms. Laguda i wasn't born to be a picky eater and i kinda' eat everything what's been served on the table.. hahaha i love fastfood meals too. not so effin' good right? lol

and ps: i do consider obesity as a social disease 'cause people who are "sexy on the Mediterranean side of the world" (the obese ones) tend to have low self-esteem. lol :DDD

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can actually sympathize with Ms. Taborada, Ms. Concepcion and Mr. Sabay. Come on guys, some of you have trouble getting thin, some of us just want to get a little fatter. I may not look so thin but my weight is definitely not proportional to my height. I am only a point above underweight... Sometimes, I think that we are just not contented with our looks. Me for example. We all have insecurities from being fat to being thin. Having insecurities for me, just makes us all normal. We all want to look better and as Ms. Ganir said, "it's never too late". It depends upon us if we allow insecurity to take over us. Besides, think of it this way, atleast fat people gain bigger boobs than thin people. hehehe. kidding.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. uh oh... i usually don't get enough sleep, i am usually stressed out, i eat food which are unhealthy and i don't exercise daily. but the last time i checked my BMI, it's within normal range... (thank God)
@ms. nuez, i love your fighting spirit. your confidence makes things possible.
@ms. casals, remember to take things easily and always think positive. never step down on your pedestal.
@yomama thank you for the article, though i am not obese, it still helps me to live life to the fullest.
everybody says it all. i don't have anything to add up.
ah, wait...all i can say is that we just have to have a healthy lifestyle. be happy, ( be budoy..) hahaha

  44. there are many reasons why a person becomes fat. For example, back when I was a child, I was really thin (as in literally THIN), but when I reached Grade 4, I became addicted on playing the computer, watching anime and movies that I barely move out from looking at the TV screen, only if I want to go to the bathroom and it's time to eat. Then it came to the point that I'm growing bigger. My brothers and sister starts calling me names but I won't just let it slip so I started calling them some names too. I know it's childish but I came used to it. I think the reason why I became like this is totally lack of aerobic activities because after I eat, I directly go into the front of the computer or the TV then the rest is history. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ms. Minoza, we are opposite. I was chubby when I was younger and then I just suddenly got thin. Hehehehe. Maybe if not for my good genes, I would've been very fat. I mean, almost all reasons for getting fat apply to me. I sleep very late, eat different things- I'm not picky you see, I get stressed out a lot and I don't exercise. But there's still a possibility of me getting fat, I mean I haven't even reached half my lifetime yet. Anything is possible. Let's all just wait and see and just hope and pray for a sexier body. :D

  46. Sleep deprivation can cause obesity? Waaaa!

Well, I think most of the people today sleep very late at night because we tend to get hooked with our technology now a days. And also, to those who have hectic schedules, like for example, nursing students whose time are always occupied and very loaded EVERYDAY. Right? :p

Maybe we can share this article to our beloved teachers so that they can SOMETIMES give us time to relax? Hahaha just kidding.. (I know, being stressed is part of the training)

Though we have hectic schedules and have lesser time to relax, we should still be able to manage this. Time management can be the best thing! And I SHOULD BE, MUST BE ABLE TO DO THIS TOO!

So yeah. Time management and again and again and again a healthy lifestyle can prevent and kick those freaking diseases :)

  47. Whoah! Unbelievable, I never thought that FOOOD wouldn't be the very FIRST and MAJOR FACTOR of Obesity!!

So to Ms. S.S. Gervacio and to you guys, don't worry that much ok?? It doesn't mean that if you eat your favorite sweets you are already eating a percentage of obesity!

After all, It's not about the FOOD,FOOD,FOOD.. it's about SELF CONTROL my dear!! :D

as students we get stressed a lot, we are sleep deprived and we eat a lot so we can really relate to this article. :)but honestly, for me i don't think it's the perfect time for me for a lifestyle change. :))) i don't think i even have the time to exercise.probably the only time we get exercise is when we go to the mall and stroll around for hours. i mean, we are teenagers. we love to eat (especially fast food), we love to just sit down and surf the net until the wee hours of the night and go on facebook and just get off the chair when our butts hurt.
but even then, i will remember the things i have learned in this article and apply it when i feel like i have the urge to make a lifestyle change :D :D just my opinion. hahaha.

  49. I thought I have lesser chance of having this because neither my parents nor my relatives has it! But I guess, STRESS is indeed a great protagonist of my happy life and now I knew what I must more focus on....BE MORE CALM and keep myself away from the scary invasion of OBESITY!

Thanks a bunch yo mama for this Beautiful and healthy blog! :)

  50. @ms. niala, i totally agree with you! to those who plan on a lifestyle change, SELF-CONTROL is the key! :)

  51. Uhhhh.. I can't say I can totally relate to the article.. >_< haha... But then again, I can relate to it somehow. When I eat a lot, my stomach gets fat and so out of proportion to my body that I end up getting insecure. How much more insecure would people who are obese feel, right?

I agree with C. Gabiana, R. Laguda and D. Suarez. Obesity is not just about insecurities but about ending your life soon. With obesity comes diseases so we must have steps on how to manage our weight.

But I don't agree that sleep deprivation and stress can lead to obesity (in my life). You see, I sleep late every day. During weekdays the longest time I sleep would be around five hours. I feel stressed everyday, too (with all the studying >_< ahaha). But still, I am not fat. I guess people have different ways of growing fat. X)

  52. @Willy Angelie Nuez

I really admire how you look at yourself. I am also at awe that you want to lose weight "for your own good". Well, I actually know a lot of people who want to lose weight.. But not for the same reason as yours. They want to lose weight because they think that if they grow thinner, they'll be more accepted by the society. You see, some people are more concerned about what the society thinks of them-- about what the society wants. TRUTH HURTS. I'll bet that if we lived in a world where the "healthier people" are the most appreciated, some people wouldn't want to lose weight.. not even for the sake of their health.

  53. Genetics plays a role. Diet and exercise plays a smaller role. Weight may be as difficult to alter as height. We are dealt the cards from the time we are born. You can fight your weight, but it is a lifetime of war. And your happiness will suffer. nyahaha!!

I cant really relate....just like Ms. Taborada and my friend Mr. Sabay. I want to gain weight but even I eat a lot my body does not change maybe a little but its not what i want. For me, I thnk the desire of gaining weight is as hard as the desire of losing weight.

Thumbs Up Again For The Article!!! GOD BLESS

  54. oh yes, Obesity is one of the delicate issues being laid upon us these days. Some just want ignore their state of health, and some just thinks that it doesn't matter since there are also some persons that undergo in what they are having. Stress, lack of sleep, food choice and lack of aerobic activity. i had this all yet I really couldn't say that I am obese. But being in the shoes of those guys made me think that there are several factors that are affected just because of their weight, one said by Ms.Gabiana is Insecurity, yes. Like teens nowadays experience. and just like what Ms.Suarez said let's be guided of our food intake. But does being Obese these days really matter? Well infact, there are several outstanding professionals that consider themselves obese but aren't affected much about it?

  55. Anyways, thank you again Yo'Mama for the wonderful article. :)

  56. And oh! Deal me in Christine Roferos. I usually have those wide-awake nights but haven't had any obesity signs at all (just dark circles around my eyes :>). Cheers to that! haha

But since we're not in the Mediterranean side of the globe, I just have to encourage people who have gone here like Kathleen Bispo, to be upbeat as in to be expecting the best and what fits yourself.

You should not worry, get rid of stress *bahhh! (again and again) like Seth Osias. Live with your happiness and you'll never regret.

Stay COOL! Ultimate thanks to yo mama. Your articles are my happiness (i'm now having information overload)

  58. i share the same questions with some of you guys too. i mean, WHY AM I NOT GAINING WEIGHT? anyway, i know this site is about losing weight but, i've been through all those stated above, i don't exercise, i eat a lot, got depressed, stressed, and sleep deprived. my family is generally lean, i mean, i can't say that they're overweight. i just know they're fat. gaining weight is kind of becoming a problem for me already.

Miss Intong: I KNOW!!! It sucks too, because fat people are discriminated. i mean, they are people too. a lot of people (especially those in the fashion business) really look down on fat people. i dont get why it has to be like that. everyone is different in their own way.

an extra pound or two doesnt make you any less of a person. and that goes out to all of you who are having uncertainties. think straight: you are beautiful. :)

  59. Awesome are the first words i utter while reading this article thanks to Yo'Mama because of this i learned plenty of things about obesity but me myself i kinda say that im somehow fat because i sometimes eat different kinds of foods just like Ms Laguda and Ms Roferos but it only happens when im stressed out because for me i can cope up stress through eating although somehow i knew that there are also some ways other than eating[ :) ] especially in coping up stress but as usual when im free from stress i usually discipline myself through limiting the food i eat because as we all know obesity triggers diabetes(like as to what the article said) and i actually have a bloodline of diabetes that's why i usually limit my food intakes.
To ms. concepcion, ms.apolinar, ms. taborada and mr. sabay, u guys are lucky because u are free from eating everything but still you have to watch out because sometimes eating plenty of foods might affect our body in some other ways other than obesity. ( ^_^ ).

  60. @Nover Arizobal, maybe its just the way how your body maintains it homeostasis thats why your not gaining weight like ms. concepcion, ms.apolinar, ms. taborada and mr. sabay, but if you think your too desperate to gain weight then its easy just consult a dietician because maybe he or she can help you.... :)

  61. @Miss Liz Carnicer, thanks for your wonderful comment hahaha, its highly appreciated. the thing is, a way to live life to the fullest is confidence. and yeah, im confident how the way i look with my attitude. but whos confident enough knowing your suffering obesity with potential illnesses coming your way right. just saying.

    #TO POSITIVITY GUYS! ;*

  62. Ms Teves said: "only happens when im stressed out because for me i can cope up stress through eating although somehow i knew that there are also some ways other than eating"

This is true for a lot of people. When stressed, a lot of people tend to eat to feel happy. Stress often leads to depression and we associate eating with happiness. That's why we eat. Think about it, when have you attended a feast where no one's happy? Even food after a funeral doesn't seem that depressing.

That's why you need to learn stress-reduction techniques. When you reduce stress, you eliminate the drive to eat to feel happy. When you start feeling stressed, DON'T EAT. Instead, find a more productive outlet like writing a blog, playing games, watch a movie, or read a book.

  63. ents@Yo' Mama.
Yeah, you're right. Lately I've been under stress with our quizzes everyday, stress from my parents, stress from people who expect a lot from me and yeahhhhh, FOOD is only my refuge, most of the time. But then, as a student, I think that my teenage years are the perfect moments to adjust with everything and control ourselves (to do something for a good or bad outcome) - in WHO we are to BECOME in the FUTURE.

  64. ms.remeticado: we really feel the same way..I've been stressed too because of so many reasons and i have noticed that i got hungry all the time which tends me to eat a lot and i feel like i really gained weight..

Being stressed is not the only factor causing or leading to obesity. there are other reasons just like eating too many refined carbohydrates, being insulin resistant, having not enough exercise, genes could be, lack of sleep, poor diet during gestation catching a cold and so many more..

through this facts we can gain knowledge that will help us in a different way leading to a happy and healthy way of living..
