Am I at Risk for Hypertension?

It's hard to tell if you have hypertension because there aren't any symptoms to deal with in its earlier stage until it reaches complication. That's when the real problem comes in. But if you feel some severe headache and occasional nosebleed along with it chances are you might be hypertensive.

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common condition that may lead to complications and severe health problems. Normally, it is a symptom of many illnesses such as coronary heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and heart failure. In USA alone, almost half of its population has severe hypertension according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

Hypertension comes in three major types namely essential, secondary and systolic hypertension. Essential hypertension occurs without any known cause. On the other hand, when hypertension is triggered by other conditions such as a disease, it is called secondary hypertension. Lastly, systolic hypertension is where the systolic blood pressure number is higher than normal. This type of hypertension is common in the elderly.

However, despite having a general lack of symptoms, one can easily detect an uncontrolled hypertension since some of the major organs, like the kidney and the heart, can actually feel some discomfort whenever such condition attacks. If you feel an excessive and ongoing pressure in your blood, it's an indication that your blood is actually fighting its way through the walls of your arteries as it is pumped from your heart to your body.

Aneurysm or an abnormal "ballooning" of arteries is also one of the effects of hypertension which can lead to vision changes and blindness due to bursting of one's arteries. But take to heart, hypertension isn't so bad the symptoms show. Most of the time hypertension is just a minor wake-up call. It is just a signal that we have to take it easy on either our lifestyle or in the food we eat.

Just to make sure, you have to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It usually rises as your age progresses. But if you're the kind that keeps a detailed track of your blood pressure, you need not worry much. Obesity is also a concern as it is sometimes hereditary and very hard to fix.

Most of the time, if you can find the right means to take control and manage your body rhythms and your emotional responses, the blood pressure stays at a fairly normal level. Looking at a beautiful scenery or a radiant baby’s face, reading a good book you like, taking a leisurely walk in the afternoon are just some of the natural hypertension cures. To sum it all up, take it easy!

  1. Dibs on the first comment!! :))

    Hypertension. High-blood pressure.

Unlike Diabetes, I BET that ALL of you know somebody who has experienced this. Sadly, also, I bet a fewer number have lost loved ones because of this. :<

However, what amazes me is how there is a very simple cure to hypertension which is to TAKE THINGS EASILY. Laugh! Live! Love. :"> Breathe every once in a while. They're all clichés, but they will always ring true.

  2. hahaha. You're right Danica Apolinar. I do know someone very close to me who has hypertension. But you know, i wouldn't call it the "cure" though, i think the word you are meaning to say is "prevent". In order to prevent hypertension, all we have to do is "take it easy". But i won't be surprised if some mistake "take it easy" from "it's okay to do it". 'Cause i watch television and some of the DRUNK characters, say "take it easy man, just drink" to the ones who really do "take it easy". :) i just hope everyone has their vocabulary synchronized. :D

thanks for the new article. :)

  3. along with the epic diabetes in our genes lies another hereditary disease called the Hypertension. my 2 grandmas (again), my dad, aunties and uncles developed this "KILLER DISEASE".. obviously, if you have hypertension, then you have a high-blood pressure.

way back when I was still an elementary student, we were thought that Hypertension is a SILENT KILLER, you'll never know that it's coming until you'll feel something that is different in your nape :))

  4. sorry about the "thought" in the last paragraph. supposedly, that's "tought"
    apologies :))

  5. yeah right D.A. Suarez! it's a matter of how well you put your words into actions. or like, having things in moderation :))

    ReplyDelete
  6. well, the first type of hypertension (essential) definitely scared me. :))) it's like you're hypertensive just because...
So, i searched the internet and i learned that: "Although the cause is unknown, researchers do know that obesity, smoking, alcohol, diet, and heredity all play a role in essential hypertension." Again, it all boils down to your way of living. eat healthy, live healthy guys. :D

  7. @Apple gabiana, don't you mean "taught"? the past tense of teach? haha. yes, apple gabiana, that was what i mean't. Did you misunderstand me when i said "i hope everyone has their vocabulary synchronized"? or are you just agreeing with me? since the expression "yeah right" can also be used in a different way.

I observed that you do a lot of research miss rosales, thanks for giving us new information about hypertension. Yes, the bottomline is, AGAIN, living healthy. Not living healthy=may have hypertension=complications and severe health problems. Better safe than sorry. :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. You are right, Suarez. I'm sorry if I wasn't too precise with the words I used. :) Of course, there are limits to everything.

But also, with "take it easy", I am pertaining to the "healthy" way to take things easy and not through drinking, drugs and the like. :)))) There will always be what we call "life's natural highs" ♡ :) (just to make things clear)

Lastly, KUDOS to the people or person behind this blog! :D

    ReplyDelete
  9. @ Ms. Gabiana: othink technically, they both mean the same thing. high blood pressure is the laymans term for hypertension as the latter is the medical term.

i am luckily a candidate for this disease :) because almost all of my family members has hypertension. i think it the systolic type. my father also has hypertension but what he did was just doing regular exercise and it worked. he is back to normal now

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's okay Apolinar, and yes, i know what you mean. :)

It's really shocking how hypertension can be a symptom of many severe health conditions. Aneurysm huh.. i can recall the picture sir kia showed us. i wouldn't want my arteries looking like a balloon and i can't even begin to imagine what'll happen after that. But even though the article says that hypertension is a minor wake-up call, i don't think we should wait for the "call", we should consider this article as an early warning. :D thanks Yo'mama.

  11. Hmm hypertension. My grandma, father, mother, uncle and other relatives have this freakin' disease. I know they do have a normal lifestyle, but they still experience hypertension. Because yes, it also matters to the age of a person.

well, just like what ms. apolinar and ms. suarez said, just "take things easy" especially to those who were once young :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. i strongly agree with you ms. suarez!!! yeah, let's not wait for the call and end up doing nothing at all..

Let's do SOMETHING for the early WARNING! :)

  13. Let me but-in in this conversation…I too, like miss Gabiana is worried that I might be soon be hypertensive… not just being pessimistic and all but most of my relatives are, not just hypertensive but also diabetic. So in the words of miss Apollinar KUDOS to me, for being the front runner of these common and killer diseases… But I would like to challenge myself from fighting my genes. We will not know unless we try, right? And I’ve always believe that actions have always equal but opposite reaction. We don’t know just by living a healthy life I might be an exemptions. :D

I never thought that smoking is also one cause of developing hypertension, so thank you miss Rosales for the info.

  15. I really agree to Ms. Rosales that essential hypertension is somehow scary because it didn't have any symptoms to prove that you truly is a hypertensive person but in order to disperse that thought, we must be cautious in everything through establishing some habits such as checking our blood pressures daily especially to people which is over 18 years old because during those times you well have higher risk in developing hypertension.
Lifestyle changes may also help control your blood pressure like for example yoga because it well kept you in a relaxing manner and away from stress that might trigger hypertension

  19. welcome ms. suarez. :) i've noticed that you have a very keen eye on words. perhaps, you could be a very good grammar teacher. joke. :))

@ms. teves, i really like your idea about yoga!:) i mean, it doesn't only relax the mind, but also the body. it's an excellent stress reliever, don't you think? i think it will help prevent people from being hypertensive in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  20. im glad that none of my family members have this effin' disease. Hypertension is rightly called 'the silent killer' because it usually has no symptoms until it causes major damage to the body organs. :))

  21. Thank you so much to Yo'mama for this article. I know now what type of Hypertension my late grandfather had, and it was Systolic hpertension. It reminds me what the doctor told my grandfather after his 2nd heart attack. He told my grandpa to be more careful....Then, when my grandpa had his 3rd heart attack, he died.:( The doctor said it's kinda rare to survive the 3rd heart attack cause it's already crucial, and it was.

I'm also worried about having this disease because I often get stressed out, and sometimes stress really gets into me. I often think irrational and become depress eventually. I will really try my best to take things easily as what Ms. Apolinar is telling us. By this, I hope my anxiety will be reduced.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ms. andales, good for you none of your family member don't have hypertension.
hypertension runs in our blood, huhuhuhu.... my grandma, my mom, aunts and uncles...hopefully, i will not be one of them. i always check my BP and it's within normal range. but maybe sooner, i will have this disease.. i eat too much salt in my diet, hypertension runs in my blood, and i am often stressed out. this things increases one's BP right?.. i'll try to relax.
@ms. teves, i try someday the yoga thingy,i have tried yoga once and it really makes me feel better. i will also exercise and lessen the foods with sodium.
let's take things easily.. stay healthy.. ^_^
@yomama thanks for this article. it really broaden my knowledge about hypertension... ('thumbs up')

  23. Like Ms. Suarez I wouldn't want my arteries looking like a balloon also. I can't really imagine it. I would be totally scared out of my wits.

  24. Just like diabetes, I also have a family history of hypertension. Upon reading this article, all the details about hypertension struck through my mind. This made me realize that I am very prone to this disease. Honestly, I don't have a healthy lifestyle. I frequently eat fatty foods and I don't exercise that much. I also have a mild heart disease and I am constantly under stress. Plus, I am also overweight. If I'll continue those bad habits, I'm very sure that I will be a candidate for hypertension. I should exert more effort in preventing this to happen.

  25. June 16, 2004. My dad has been killed by some factors, an example of it is hypertension. He has been diagnosed like 3 times before he ended up dead, seriously. hahaha. I know he's somewhere near god right now, and just like in the article, yes, he lost track of his blood pressure. and I just like ms.tan is a candidate of being one of the candidates. but before anything else, i wanna thank yo mama about this article, you really showed effort on posting articles daily, keep on informing readers about diseases and all. Just like Ms.suarez said, we're better safe than sorry, let's try to eat anything we want but not too much, dance a lil bit as an exercise and breathe no matter what the situation is. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Uhm i think we all do have tendencies to have hypertension together with diabetes. Haha, 'cause look, our lifestyle nowadays isn't healthy anymore and i bet we all knew it.

Danielle Ann Suarez: yes, there are ways to prevent it and one of it is to "TAKE THINGS EASILY". But sometimes, it's inevitable to worry things especially when it's way too important to take it easily. :D

thisis-kathlyn tan: uhm kindly join me in the not-so-good list of "hypertensive persons to be". :DDDD

    ReplyDelete
  27. yup, so like Casals..my i know one family member who suffers hypertension and to state that as a fact..he just had a heart surgery it think the past 3 years. My thanks to Yo Mama..for another spectacular article...then to agree with ms. apolinar and ms. suarez..although hypertension is s "killer disease" just like Ms. gabiana stated. You just have to live life to the fullest and dont stress it...chillax! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. @junice casals: it's not too late to change the way that you are living your life right now. do not let your past or present stop you from having a possible healthy and normal life. let your knowledge of your family's background serve as your first step towards changing for the better. Since you are already aware that you don't have a healthy lifestyle, let this serve as your stepping stone. You say you are overweight, don't exercise, and eat a lot of fatty foods, but these bad habits can be overcomed with discipline and the right attitude. :) THINK POSITIVE! YOU CAN DO IT! :DDD

@ms. rosales: thank you dear, i am very flattered... nice joke. :P

  29. guys, i noticed that almost all of us have relatives with hypertension and we're all worrying because hypertension is hereditary. i'd just like to share that my dad who is hypertensive, practically in every meal eats raw garlic.yes, GARLIC because it has been the subject of several clinical studies and its ability to drastically lower blood pressure has been demonstrated.but if you'd like food that doesn't make your breath smell, you can eat food rich in omega 3 fatty acids like tuna! happy eating healthy food guysss :))

    ReplyDelete
  30. i guess majority here came from a family with a hypertension. I agree with the others that taking yoga makes a person relax...and besides it's also fun!:)However, whenever I talk to my family about it especially my father, they would say "naaahh!!! it's to expensive"...hehehe. But yoga's not the only way right? With healthy diet, exercise, and taking things slowly to avoid stress, I believe that hypertension can be minimized.

To YoMama and others, can you give me some wise set of foods appropriate for a hypertensive person? i'm just curious ^_-

to Ms. Roferos, I understand your sentiments. Sometimes no matter how hard we try not to think about stressful things, it cannot be avoided especially when it has something to do with our loved ones.

  32. I kinda agree with @christineroferos that we all do have tendencies to have hypertension and many other diseases. It only depends on how we handle our health... In my opinion, having a family history of hypertension is just a wake up call so that you should handle your health carefully to avoid having that disease... Especially nowadays that lots of foods that doesn't give the necessary nutrients and vitamins for our body are being sold everywhere as in EVERYWHERE! It's also delicious that's why we can't blame people to buy it... even me, i eat those kind of foods because again, I find them delicious! :P

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with Ms. Roferos that most of us have hypertension together with diabetes in our family history. I also agree with Ms. Suarez that hypertension should be considered as an early warning :D

It also scares me to think that there is a kind of hypertension that happens because of an unknown cause. But as Ms. Rosales has stated, diet, heredity, obesity, smoking, and all play a role in essential hypertension. BTW, thanks for the info Ms. Rosales ;)

As for taking things easy, I agree with Ms. Suarez that these are more like prevention rather than cure. We shouldn't stress too much over things. I know there are some things which are too important to take easily, as Ms. Roferos has stated, but we shouldn't worry about it too much. ( I don't think I'm making sense. lol -.-")

And this all circles back to your way of living. And also your diet. So live a healthy life guys :D

  34. that's great joy rosales, you are on your way towards becoming a walking encyclopedia. :)))) it is good to know that TUNA is silently helping us achieve good health. Since i am an ultra-mega-tuna-lover. We can also cut off from eating too much salty and fatty foods since they do no good to people with hypertension. Speaking of foods that can cut your risk of high blood pressure, you can also try blueberries, as well as raspberries and strawberries, food rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products. as you say ms. joy rosales, happy eating. *wink :))

    ReplyDelete
  35. @marturillas, oh yeah, my comment was also for you. :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. @ms roferos: i don't think ms. suarez is narrowing down her opinion to worrying and stressing one's self. ^^ i think she's emphasizing more on the take it easy on your lifestyle and food and beverage intake since she's convincing people to have a healthy lifestyle and have a better perspective...

    ReplyDelete
  37. @ms suarez: walking encyclopedia? okayy,, nice one.... no offense @arielle rosales... uhm, i too have the risk of having of hypertension soon coz it's also hereditary, i guess i am thankful for your dietary advice. ^^

  40. same here @ms.rosales, my dad eat's raw garlic too which makes them food siblings! HAHAHA but the difference is, my dad just had stroke last year since he's denying all his life about having hypertension.

as young as i am now, i feel "heartburns" or "mini- heartattacks" as what I call them but I'm in control. the articles are helping and getting scarier, obesity to hypertension equals me. waa! at least now we can start doing our preventive measures. :))

    ReplyDelete
  41. if i may, ms pantorilla, im butting in to your conversation with the others :) despite the fact that ms suarez is referring to the lifestyle and food and beverage intake part, i don't think ms roferos' point is to be disregarded as well since stress is one of the biggest factors that may increase hypertension. i think it's also important that we should remember to take it easy on our problems and other things that we worry about. :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. YeaH!Ms.Gabiana was right..Hypertension is a "SILENT KILLER".Sadly most of my grandparents have hypertension and some of them died because of this disease. What is worst is that my father has it and he even experienced a mild stroke and we don't even expect it because there are no visible symptoms. But thank God he recovered.

The fact that hypertension can be passed to next generations and I already prepared myself to have it.hehehehe It is important to monitor one's blood pressure and diet even if you don't have this disease. It makes you aware of your own health.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hypertension.. :( it's very sad to know that I might "inherit" this from my parents..

I agree with D. Apolinar and D. Suarez. We have to take things easy (not stressing too much and all..), but not to the point that we disregard our health.

To A.Rosales, I agree with you. Hypertension is really scary. Thanks for the additional info.. ;) :)) It's just sad though, you said that garlic and tuna can help low blood pressure but I'm not a fan of both of them.

I guess now, the only way for me to fight hypertension is through relaxing. But then again, I'm not really good at that. I usually get stressed out, even for the simplest things. I should really learn to just keep cool, maybe try out yoga. But my sister doesn't approve of me taking yoga. So i searched for some other ways.. and came upon tai chi!! :)) I always wondered why sometimes, when I go to ayala in the morning, I see elderly people doing tai chi in the grassy areas. Now I know that they are doing it for health benefits.. :D :D I would consider joining them some time.. (>_<) :D

  44. This article tells us that hypertension is not a joke. The truth is most people are really mistaken by how they try to loose weight. They probably just thought that without eating or skipping meals will make them loose weight. But the real effect is hypertension. And as it begins, it is something that we cannot really notice. It just occurs naturally and doesnt have any symptoms that can warn us about it. It just makes us feel pain and could probably make us gain more weight because the only cure is to eat. That is why, all of us should be careful on how we monitor ourselves in times of loosing weight.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ms.KathTan: IKR! That is why I stated there, "obviously". Okay?

And for the "thought vs. tought vs. taught" in my previous comment, oh well, sorry again. I was kindda messed up when I posted the comment last night. I absolutely learned my lesson there. Thanks by the way!

Anyway, 90% (I really can't remember if it was 90 or 99) of the major diseases in the world are caused by stress. There's so many evidences that would really pinpoint that stress is the culprit of 'em all. Especially, when you tend to eat too much to cope up with it. And not just eating, but also drinking alcohol (too much).

For those people like me who are said to be "next in line", I think we can find a way in stopping the "curse". LOL. I really don't know why I used that word though. But keeping ourselves in the right track would be very hard and painful, especially when food and others are very tempting and extremely tempting. :DD yaayks.

  46. @Junice Iane Casals

I can see that you have a lot of things to worry about and i also understand that you really want to change your lifestyle..But I also noticed that you want to do this not because you want to have a healthier body but because you are scared of these diseases. For me, being scared gives you a lot of stress.. And stress may lead to even worse things. So, chill. Forget about hypertension and diabetes.. You don't even have them yet.Change your lifestyle because you want to be fit and healthy --period. Chase all the bad thoughts away.. Be optimistic ;>

  48. I agree to that Lizelle Carnicer. Because you see, when you worry a lot Junice Casals, stress will automatically tighten a grip on you, which is also something to really avoid. As what one of our instructors mentioned ago, 90% of the world's diseases is associated with this. Obviously, hypertension is on the list. So say "shoo!" to worries, and just be healthy in every possible way you can. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. TAKE THINGS EASILY as what the other mentioned above!!!!

Ms. Padigos has a point. Don't pressure yourself too much. Worrying a lot is not really really good.

Take time to relax and manage yourself Ms Casals.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ms. Gabiana: Well, I'm sorry if you get offended but it seems that the way they are different the way you construct the sentence. well, let's not focus to that, the important thing here is we will be more conscious because i guess we both have history on hypertension.

i agree to Ms. Roferos that most has the said disease because of our lifestyle nowadays. and as our economy and technology booms and booms, people are carelessly making foods which are not healthy just to sell. all we just have to do is become A SMART CONSUMER.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Ms. Gabiana and Ms. Padigos: Well 90% or 99% it really doesn't matter. Probably by that kind of range, who wouldn't be alarmed right? But we have to know that disease control is still in our hands. By reviewing all the comments before this, I've had a great grasp on how many of us in class have a health history of hypertension. Just like @Ms. Enad and many others, I'm also a candidate for hypertension. My health history is pretty horrible as you can see, but sadly, I cannot resist fatty foods. I'm more of a carnivore, and I know that it's taking a toll on my health by increasing my chances for contracting the disease (ouch! haha).

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Ms. Rosales: Pretty much, essential hypertension doesn't have a PRIMARY cause. I also did a research of my own and it somewhat corresponds to yours. Essential hypertension is MULTIFACTORIAL. So the factors you've cited like high salt intake, obesity, smoking, alcohol, diet, and heredity all have combined effects to produce hypertension. So yeah, the author might have said that the first type of hypertension doesn't have a known cause. But I have to say that an ABUSIVE LIFESTYLE is the main culprit not only of essential hypertension, but most diseases. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. yeah right, ms. tan! our economy, as well as the technology really have a great impact in relation to our daily lifestyle. and if we try to continue to follow the new trends or ways of living in most of the people nowadays like drinking alcoholic beverages, poor exercise and physical activities, eating processed foods, and etc., this would surely lead not only to hypertension but also to many other diseases.

and as ms. suarez has said, "it's not yet too late to change the way that you are living your life right now. do not let your past or present stop you from having a possible healthy and normal life." so, why so worried? we still have time to change and while we are still young, we should be as healthy as we can be. promote a healthy life! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Ms. Enad: i noticed that you partly stressed smoking as one of your concerns. personally, i also have the same sentiments you have, especially when it comes to second hand smoke. you see, there are smokers in our family and it's not uncommon if we get a whiff of the smoke they blow out. according to time magazine, passive smoking is an independent risk factor for high blood pressure. in fact the article states that a study was conducted among preschool children. it was concluded that exposure to secondhand smoke from parents who light up is a contributing factor to early onset hypertension. since young arteries are stiffened and hardened, blood cannot flow freely through blood vessels. You can read it here: http://healthland.time.com/2011/01/10/second-hand-smoke-exposure-raises-kindergartners-blood-pressure/#ixzz1jZpvwAXz :>

  56. @Ms. Niala: hey there..! :) I would like to help you on you problem there..

I,too, have concerns about this type of disease because my family tree may also have this.. :( and there's a possibility that i will have this too..

So, to help us both on our problems, i researched about what triggers and what we can do to prevent it..

as i went through my search, i read that there are many factors, sometimes a combination of these, can trigger hypertension. Some factors such as weight, activity level, tobacco use, stress, and alcohol consumption are some of which can trigger hypertension..

if you dont mind my asking, do find your dad having these factors..? if so, hypertension might trigger any minute.. does you father have any medications that can help prevent triggering high blood..? if so...

    hmmmm..well...
there's only two very effective ways I know..and that's "prevention" and observing a healthy lifestyle... :)

    like I said before..
"PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN CURE"

    I hope this helped..! :D

  57. i agree to what people are saying, hypertension is a scary disease. but you see, as what Ms.Lizelle Carnicer said, being scared gives us a lot of stress which may result to worse things.
So just stay relaxed, and live each day with a positive attitude. For by doing this, we can prevent ,or rather, lessen the possibility of having hypertension.

  58. To Ms. Carnicer, Ms. Padigos, Ms. Salera, Ms. Suarez

I appreciate your comments guys. I will take your advice. I won't stress over this. But I will just be careful with the food that I am eating. Help me with this. Thank you guys. :))

  59. To Yo Mama, thank you for this helpful article again. I appreciate your effort in making these articles. God bless you always.
I agree to Ms. Rosales that essential hypertension is really scary because it has no symptoms. Though some of my family members and relatives has this disease, I am not afraid of hypertension because I firmly believe that if you live a healthy lifestyle and "take things easily" like what Ms. Apolinar as a prevention further explained by Ms. Suarez then there is a great possibility that you wont get it. To Ms. Teves, I really like your idea about using yoga as one of the technique to lessen or prevent us from having hypertension. It does not only relaxes our mind and body but also gives us a positive outlook in life. To Ms. Roferos, Ms. Tan and Mr. Gervacio, I strongly agree about your ideas. It is true that a lot of people doesn't have a healthy lifestyle, only some people has it. This is also because of our high technology and the booming system of our economy in which they produce foods that are instant and doesn't have necessary nutrients in it as long as they are going to have profit from it. What we need to do is to be a "SMART CONSUMER" in order to observe and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lastly, always pray to God for a good health.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hypertension is nicknamed "THE SILENT KILLER" because a person could have it for years without even knowing it..

So for me as early as now, we must take care of ourselves not just to prevent hypertension but for any possible diseases,,,,,,:))) thanks for the article!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. yo mama wins again! gawd, i'm really getting that hard kicking action telling me that i should really be aware and mindful about my health. reading the above comments, now i could say that hypertension is really not good. i do get a lot of blabbers from my parents about them having high BP's. i know it's not good, but i didn't think it was that severe. yeah, the last paragraph is really great. having a healthier lifestyle and following preventive measures is the best way to counteract any type of disease. so abnormally high BP is never good. i shall keep that in mind.

  63. Mr. Arizobal: Obviously, getting high BP never meant good at all. My family has a history of hypertension. Knowing it made me realized that I should be very careful with my health.

Thumbs up for realizing that healthy lifestyle is always the best way to counteract any disease.

    Healthy Lifestyle=Better Life :D

  66. I honestly, HONESTLY, didn’t know what hypertension was. I’ve heard the word before, never googled it, I just know that it’s a condition. The article is helpful, now I know what it is. @DanicaApolnar, so it’s just high blood pressure? That’s it? -___-‘ okay. The article didn’t scare me, the comments above did (Silent Killer, Killer disease, @janselbuencaloloy’s comment). It has no symptoms yet it’s a symptom itself for other scary diseases. I’m worried about my parents. I’m glad I’m taking up nursing, I’ll be taught how to use the bp apparatus soon, and I can keep an eye on my parent’s blood pressure. I’m not worried about getting hypertension. Worrying about passing exams, been there, done that, it didn’t help at all. If I pass, good. If I don’t, what’s the worst thing that could happen? Hahaha So yep, relax. Without abusing your body, enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal.
